"We stopped at the Hafen Diner on the recommendation of a friend on our way to see The Lion King as the restaurant is located very close to where the free shuttle boat departs. The Diner was empty when we arrived although more people arrived during our visit - families, youngish couples and groups of friends. The waitress was friendly and spoke some English which was really helpful. There was a children's menu which included a meal deal - burger, fries and a drink. Unfortunately the burger could not be substituted for any of the other options on the children's menu but this wasn't a major issue for us. There was also a gift bag with a toy and activity for children. The burgers arrived quickly and were tasty. It wasn't an overly cheap meal but for us it was convenient and the food was good."

We enjoyed a great meal at the terrace with an even greater view from the harbour and landingsbrucke. The service is great, the food is good.

Excellent service, excellent food, and some really good Bar choices. Based on an American Diner, but with realy good options on the burger front. Really good value for money.

The diner serves good hamburgers with a view over the harbor. Located at the Hafen hotel, it was a very convenient place to eat when staying there. Staff was friendly and both food and service was good.

I had a salad and fries here and both were really good! My friend had a burger and she liked it a lot. The diner has a nice atmosphere and friendly workers. The diner is near the harbor and you can get great views walking up to it. View menu

We liked the burger. Atmosphere was also good, music a bit louder than usually in such places. Just the service was cold, almost really unpolite.. and untidy. When her boss came she started to be more friendly... that is what we did not like. But place and food were good.

This restaurant has delicious food! There is a lot of fish on the menu, but as I'm not a big fish eater, I totally enjoyed the schnitzel. As a matter of fact, all 7 of us, really enjoyed our food. We sat on the outdoor terrace with a lovely view onto the harbour. It did seem a little pricey, but after getting our food, I definitely saw the value for the money. I'd go back to this restaurant. Staying in the hotel so went down for a burger. Food was good (I had the Hafenburger) but service wasn't great. No menu on the table, one was shoved into my hand and I was asked what I wanted to drink. I only wanted water but wasn't asked still/sparkling, big/small. I got a small still but wanted a large sparkling! When I ordered, the waitress didn't write anything down; I asked for a large sparkling (!), it never came and I got the wrong dip. Maybe I was unlucky and the food was fine

This is a diner based in the Hafen Hotel. The food is very well cooked and was very enjoyable. We were a Little rushed, as we had arrived late in the evening and the diner was about to close, so they could set-up for the breakfast. However the staff were very friendly and we were not rushed. The pricing is also very reasonable, especially for a hotel in Hamburg. The only downside was that the menu did not make it clear that the burgers did not come with any sides. However the staff were only to happy to bring some fries out when we realised our error. As the menu is in German it would help if the staff made this clear to visitors when they order.

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember. The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity. The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
