Hippos Cafe - Menu

Popped in for a quick bite to eat, very busy but served very quickly. Vegan selection was good, staff very helpful and attentive.

Visited here a few weeks ago and was quite impressed with the Club Sandwich. My wife had the same and we enjoyed our lunch very much. Would recommend.

Very pleasant cafe in Leigh-on-sea. Service very polite and efficient. The prices were reasonable for the area with a variety of dishes. One thing to note is that access to the toilet is through the rear of the premises so mobility or impaired customers may struggle.

I 'm a regular here because it is so good and so reliable. They serve even basic things brilliantly. For example a bacon sandwich. The bread is fresh and tasty and the bacon simply delicious and perfectly cooked. Always a warm welcome and cheery greeting. The drinks are great too "proper tea "and my better half says.

We enjoyed a delicious light lunch at this restaurant. One of us had a beautifully presented sandwich while two others had the homemade soup of the day. Both dishes were very tasty and the portions were generous. The service was quick but not rushed, and the staff were extremely accommodating. We will definitely be returning to this restaurant. Leigh is blessed with some of the best coffee shops in Essex. The Hippo has the potential to be up there. It was a pleasant experience, a cafe still in the midst of adapting to post Covid world. An affordable menu and happy staff there can be no complaints. It just needs a USP, there is something missing preventing it from being considered one of the best.

I usually love dining at this restaurant, but I was very disappointed during my last visit. I had been excited to try the new Pie and Mash with liquor that I had heard about, so I went in for lunch and found a table. However, when I asked for the pie and mash menu, I was told that they were not serving pies that day. I was not happy about this, so I decided to leave and eat somewhere else.

I have always been a fan of Hippo's famous doorstep sandwiches, but I recently heard about their pie and mash and decided to give it a try on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant offers great vegetarian options, including veggie pie or quorn pie with veggie liquor. My husband ordered a delicious meat pie with plenty of creamy mashed potatoes. We will definitely be returning for more, as the meal was hearty and comforting on a cold, dreary Saturday. View menu
