"I have been coming to the HDV Henley pretty much since it opened, I booked Sunday lunch for the two of us, the restaurant was nice enough, only 1 other table eating though, and soon enough we were the only people in the restaurant, I know there is an issue everywhere with staffing, however at times we had no staff at all. the food was ok, the shared platter we had was great, the mains I had Sunday lunch was ok, personally I don't think the £95 bill for the 2 course and a bottle of house wine was warranted. Its a shame, we sat outside and listened to two staff basically manning about staffing, management, and other issues, maybe need to be aware of guests who are around more, not the sort of conversations guests should be hearing. Another issue I really don't like is, staff near you speaking in a foreign language, and then swopping between said language and English, its not professional either."

We ate two breakfasts and an evening meal in the bistro and received friendly, attentive and professional service. The service in the bistro on all 3 occasions was well led by the male and female maitre d’s and both had an eye for detail. We felt welcome and enjoyed good quality and well cooked food. Thank you

We found the bistro very good. A nice selection of dishes we went for several started. They were all fresh, seasoned and generous. A good selection of wines per glas. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Pricing reasonable. Much better that Bistro at the boathouse that we tried earlier the same day which was a disaster.

A pre roller pastry with some rocket and this is this “vegan option” £12 the most disgusting meal I have had at a restaurant. Hair in two glasses of wine and chicken that couldn’t be eaten as over cooked. We were thinking of booking this as our wedding venue but I’d be embarrassed to serve our guests this. Only saviour is our waitress Linda who was lovely.

What a disappointing afternoon tea. Very poor quality of the breakfast tea, the chef patisseries turned out to be boring croissant and brioche pastries The scones were dry and inconsistent, not enough staff to accommodate us properly to sit outside on a gorgeous day. Overall attention to detail and needs were not good enough. Wont be back Lovely setting however.

What a great location, and fantastic hotel. Well provisioned and spacious rooms, and the food was as you’d expect of very high quality ! The staff were all attentive but a very special mention to Sabina who really made our stay with her lovely and open nature. She couldn’t do enough and added to a wonderful experience! Thank you Sabina! We’d definitely come back soon.

Stayed for 2 days over my Birthday with my partner and family. Have nothing but praise for all staff, location, bars, and our room was fantastic, with river views and balcony. Clean, well equipped etc. Only thing I can think of is if you have any mobility issues, ask for low level room as couldn’t find a lift, and to get the view we were on highest level which to access was 3 sections of stairs..! Would fully recommend..!! Alex.

I had booked the chateaubriand for 2, we arrived and were shown to our table. About 20 mins in we were told there was no chateaubriand left so proceeded to order from the menu over 30 mins in we still only had tap water and no drinks let alone any food. Very disappointed there was a wedding on which I think they were all focussed on but this was a rare night out for myself and my husband. We ended up walking out and going to Coppa club where we had a really lovely meal and great service!

Visited here with 5 girlfriends on Monday 25th. We returned as we had had the most fabulous meal a year ago. Whilst the ambiance and decor was what I would expect from Hotel du Vin unfortunately the food was extremely disappointing. Two girls had the chicken which was extremely tough and dry. Two of us had the duck, whilst looking attractive was extremely salty. Another friend had some rose spilt on her fish cakes and they were replaced a little too quickly. The service was apologetic and we had a fun evening but the standard of food was not up to the standard we would expect from a Hotel du Vin.

Fabulous ambience afternoon tea just need a new chef ! Sorry but everything about our visit was simply lovely with the exception of the food and considering afternoons on tea is all about the food boy of boy did this chef get complacent dry as a bone bread left out too long until we mentioned then surprise surprise fresh sandwiches with soft bread came out ! Cakes that you spat out due to dryness come on chef get your act together have some pride in your delivery simple basic school boy errors the rest of your team are carrying you if it wasn’t for their professionalism polite friendly warmth we would have left either get rid of the chef or send them on basic back to how to make a sandwich s...

"We usually love coming to Cafe Rouge in Henley, always a treat for us and we are always looking forward to it. However the most recent visit was awful and it’s been going downhill over our last coupes of visits. We booked a table for my father in laws birthday. Upon being seated, we were informed that 3 of the main course dishes were unavailable.. pretty much half of the ‘mains’ options. We don’t come to Cafe Rouge for Burgers or salad! We opted for 3 portions of Mussels as had them here before and they’re very good! Mother in law just had pate as there was nothing else she wanted. These were possibly the worst mussels we’ve ever had. You could tell they weren’t fresh (cooked from frozen for sure) and there was barely any sauce in the pot! Usually they are flavourful and abundant in sauce! No check back was performed by the manager on duty..it was a quiet Monday so wasn’t exactly run off his feet. So we couldn’t alert him. Even upon clearing we weren’t ask how our meal was! Just asked if we had finished. We decided to mention they were awful to which the manager told us he would inform the kitchen. When he came back to finish clearing, my partner asked if they were frozen or fresh mussels, to which the manager replied yes, they are frozen. Wasn’t expecting that but you could totally tell! They tasted like cardboard! We had a coffee and a pudding and to be fair to the manager he didn’t charge us for one portion of mussels and the coffees we ordered. The Bill was certainly not worth what we had. Didn’t leave a tip, which we never normally do, but the service was non existent. Manager was more interested in what was on his phone. Won’t be rushing back"
