"To me, Kampai is Hamburg's best Sushi place by far. The fresh ingredients, the kind and welcoming chef, the brilliant recipes (yes, good sushi needs recipes, too), the extraordinary tastes, and the genuine Japanese atmosphere make Kampai a brilliant place to be. Sometimes one needs...a bit of luck to get in, because the place can be quite popular, also among Hamburg's Japanese crowd. But whether for a small bite while touring the Reeperbahn or the full variety of flavors, I have enjoyed every single one of my visits ... Perhaps even more so under Kampai's new management. Definite recommendation, I know I will return for sure."

It’s a tiny restaurant just off Reeperbahn which serves absolutely amazing and authentic japanese food! It’s quite small so it might be better to call ahead/book on busy nights, but we managed to get a place for on a Saturday night. Was slightly pricey...but definitely worth the price, in my opinion.

This little hole in the wall in St. Pauli offers the best sushi we've had in Hamburg. The manager/chef is very friendly and immediately makes you feel welcome. It's very intimate with about seats along the wall and counter. It's not a place where...you'll be sitting for the entire evening, but go here to experience some great food. Reservation recommended!

This was some of the best sushi we've had. One of our group was vegan and this was no problem, they adjusted the menu, supplementing avocado and mushroom for fish. The food was presented very well in a boat shape. We also drank the saki...which was served in little wooden boxes. Friendly owner who also models! Bespoke menu created for a set price at the outset.

I have tried so many sushi places in Hamburg, for this city is famous for fish and I really miss sushi, however was disappointed every time until I found this tiny friendly place in St. Pauli !!!!! Their sushi are authentic and made with very...fresh tasty fish, very satisfactory even for those who know authentic Japanese sushi (for I am Japanese and a sushi lover). The chef is friendly and easy going, which makes this place pretty cozy and relaxing. This is no doubt one of my most favorite places in Hamburg! Highly recommended.

We're so so happy with our experience in Kampai. Luckily we could find a seat as we went for early dinner, and we were seated by a friendly waitress. The chef was also very nice and briefly chatted to us before preparing what's probably one...of the best sushi of our lives (I only had similarly good sushi in Japan). The area is really narrow and has only a few seats, so make a reservation if you're planning to go at peak time. The yellowtail tuna melted in our mouth! Sooooooo good!!!! I'll definitely return to Kampai if I am back in Hamburg.
