"Not quite the Fine Dining that they now advertise themselves as. We were given to understand that they had taken on a new chef so we just had to try this restaurant out. The only waitress was very enthusiastic and nothing was too much trouble for her. The menu was bland with a limited variety of vegetables available, chips came with most dishes even the pasta! We both ordered the melon starter and the rump steak. The melon starter was a designer dish with strips of melon and sorbet which looked and tasted like dairy ice cream beware if you can't eat dairy foods)asked for new potatoes with my steak, which obligingly they did but they had been over boiled or reheated. The chips were more like wedges that's ok but again they seemed to have been reheated. The steaks were average, came with some cooked small tomatoes. We were not offered bread rolls of any description but did get a bottle of water. Very limited choice of wine by the glass but what we had was acceptable. Overall we were disappointed after expecting great things we didn't bother with desserts or coffee, total cost with tip £50."

I was staying at the hotel and the meal was part of the deal. I was pleasantly surprised by the three course included in the deal which were very good. The menu for the evening didn't have a huge range but what we ordered was very good

Although a bit pricey to others, it was tasty and nice. It was good for a quick meal whilst shopping in town, and of course you can have non alcoholic beverages, or tea/coffee etc. I enjoyed it anyway and my parent swent every saturday and could not fault it.

This place is back on the way up. They need to draw new customers out of town though and that is easier said than done. Menus are good and prices are reasonable but not the cheapest. Attempts to get more customers in are being experimented with and I wish them every success. View menu

Staying in the hotel I decided to choice the Bistro for evening meal. Being the only person in the Bistro was a bit concerned. The food chosen was good and pleasant for the price. All was freshly cooked the breakfast the next morning was similarly fresh. Walking about the area very few people in the restaurants and bars etc.

My friend and I had Sunday lunch it was absolutely amazing! The Lamb and Beef melted in your mouth and was cooked to perfection. My friend follows a dairy free diet, the chef made df yorkshire puddings for her which she said were beautiful. A lovely experience and a very very pleasant lunch in beautiful surroundings. The staff were very attentive and went that extra mile nothing was too much trouble. Thank you

Acknowledging that the hotel is in the process of being refurbished we thought that we'd try the lunch menu out. The food was slightly small in quantity especially the desserts but the quality of the food was excellent and arrived hot. The service was quite slow, although the staff were very friendly and professional. If we were under time pressure it would have been a concern. The cost was expensive for a lunch but would be ok for a special occasion when the refurbishment is complete. View menu

As a newcomer to the Grantham area, I was eager to find a classic Sunday roast without having to travel far. Our party of four, not knowing what to expect and never seeing a photo beforehand, was delighted to come across the charming setting of the appropriately named King's Room where we had made a reservation. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that the food at the Angel Royal is delightful! I especially enjoyed my parsnip and honey soup starter. The attentive staff strike the perfect balance between being friendly and efficient.

The service at the restaurant was excellent, but unfortunately the food fell short. It seemed like there were some problems in the kitchen. We ordered fresh bread with balsamic and olive oil as a starter, but the bread was stale and plain white. There was so much oil in the dish that we couldn't even taste the balsamic. My fish was tough and overcooked, however, my husband's lamb shank was decent. The blueberry cheesecake he ordered was satisfactory, but my sticky toffee pudding was overly sweet and drowned in caramel sauce. We decided to stop after that. The staff member was amazing and ended up discounting everyone's bill because of the long wait we had for our meals. Overall, there were d...

"The Stag Inn is a delightful looking pub overlooking the small green in the village of Barkston near Grantham. Internally the pub is clean and tidy with a range of two and four seater tables with New England shades of light blue on the painted table legs in the restaurant area. We didn’t venture into the pub side so can’t vouch for the decor in there. We arrived unannounced just after opening time of 12 and were offered a table with no difficulty. There was a menu of the usual offerings of fish and chips and a range of burgers together with roast salmon, chargrilled pork chop, a leek and cauliflower cheese pot pie, ham egg and chips and a vegetable lasagne amongst others. A specials chalkboard hung on the far wall and the crab and prawn salad with Mediterranean bread sounded so good we both opted for it. That was a mistake as we were to find out. The meals were reasonably quick to arrive and were served up in two large bowls with a dusting of paprika round the edges. What hit me immediately was the large flaccid green lettuce leaf draped over the edge of the bowl, together with a whole half-a-lemon that we each had. A small wedge would be perfect. The bread tasted sweet and was as far from the Mediterranean as it could possibly be apart from the occasional input of sundried tomato. What irked me most though was that the bread was delivered up pre-buttered with what looked like some bright yellow catering spread. A small ramakin of real butter between the two of us would work so much better. When asked if everything was okay I mentioned this and was told that chef would be informed. Having said all that the crab and prawn salad was full of flavour and sat on a nice mixed salad of red peppers, lettuce, red onion and cornichons. A word of advice to the wise….. don’t sit at the table near the restaurant counter as this is where the pub’s phone is located. On at least two occasions the phone was left to ring unanswered by the staff, presumably as they were busy elsewhere (the pub was by no means full) and was right behind my head! The volume of the ringer was high and it would have been a more pleasant experience for us if, firstly, it was answered and, secondly, the volume was turned down. On the plus side the staff were polite and helpful but the food not so great."
