"I first enjoyed this restaurant 40 years ago. I never forgot it. The setting is beautiful. The service is good although because they don't open until 8 pm it gets really crowded all at once. The biggest problem was that the room got very warm...due to the fireplace and all the people and there really wasn't a cross breeze. Get a table far away from the fireplace. The food was good but in those years I have been to many great restaurants and I don't find the same fancy to big cuts of meat as I might have earlier. The vegetables were good but not great. The fixed price menu has too many offerings and charges for items such as the fresh whipped cream. And if you want chicken you MUST order in advance. The address is in Nice but it really is 40 minutes from Nice, closer to Monte Carlo, so unless you are driving account for the cost of the taxi to and from also. This is no place for vegetarians. The wines are on the high end. We had excellent duck breast and lamb chop. They were well prepared. The terrine was dry. The toasted fresh bread with regional olive oil was tasty but with all the meat it was almost lost in the experience. Recommend but it didn't meet my expectations any longer. I give it average for value as it is very pricey even though there is a great deal of food. After bit you can't appreciate it. If we had an apartment to take home and reheat the leftovers maybe I would consider a 4* on value."

The Chaumiere is located up on the mountain, so might be a bit of a drive from Nice (it's about 15-20min from Monaco) but is definitely worth the drive!Cute typical house, with a huge fireplace where they cook the meat... seasonned to perfection! I believe they are only open on Fridays and Saturdays...

Wow. Wonderfully rustic feel to the place...spent half my time simply enjoying the meat being cooked on the open fire right next to me. The food itself was incredible. The figs and foie gras starter took me completely by surprise, the steak was unbelievable. Would happily go well out of my way to return.

Once in a while you find a special place where you want to come back every time you are in the area. La Chaumiere is a unique wonderful restaurant. If you don’t like chicken, you will love it here. But all dishes are outstanding. I...love the Niçoise salad and the peaches in dessert. Choice of wines is very good. Expensive but worth the long trip from Nice.

Recommended by our VRBO villa host. Turned out to be the absolute best experience of our two week France trip. Incredible food, service and atmosphere. We had no idea what we were going to expereince and have not stopped talking aboit it. What a way...to spend my 60th B day, I will never forget this most enjoyable experience. A solid 10 plus in every way, an atmosphere like no other.

We had dinner there last night. Difficult to make a reservation as they don’t often answer the phone but worth the try. Simple menu. Beef, lamb or chicken which you must order in advance. We had the beef. Excellent. Wine prices are high. Not a...large restaurant. Valet parking. Meal is cooked in the large fireplace in front of you. I highly recommend this restaurant. Staff were very nice.

Looks and feels like a traditional restaurant, not sophisticated, doesn't pretend to be. We have visited a number of times now and always have the menu degustation, not cheap at 89 euro's, wine not included. A simple choice of meat cooked on the open fire, beef, lamb or chicken (think this must be pre-ordered). Menu includes home made tapenade and 'grilled' bread, a large basket of lovely fresh vegetables (self served rustic crudities) the meat course and dessert. This time I had the lamb which was delicious. Has a good atmosphere and you can see the meat cooked from your table, we wouldn't go to often because it doesn't change, but a nice change.

This restaurant personifies the sort of place We like. La Chaumiere is homespun, simplicity personified. It's a rustic farmhouse on the Grande Corniche. The only thing you can order, and that must be in advance, is the chicken. Otherwise your main-course choice is totally superb...lamb, beef or duck grilled on the open fire in front of you, the chickens roasting/ grilling on the open log fire too There's a big wooden table where Alex carves the meat with a cleaver. There is a good choice of Starters including an enormous bowl of excellent crudites. Then baked potatoes from the log fire and green salad with the chicken, beef lamb or duck. Dessert was apple tart, creme caramel or chocolate mou...
