"my wife loves cassoulet and since we were somewhat near the cassoulet region of France we decided to find a restaurant that served it. through Tripadvisor, we found La Porte du Tarn. we were very pleased with the result! the cassoulet was prepared per the traditional way. I broke the fules and had three appetizers just because I love all three: escargot in butter and garlic; gazpacho; and baked scamorza cheese in pastry. excellent! service was most attentive, ambiance simple and comfortable. great value. You cannot go wrong here!"

Great 3 course meal - authentic French cuisine and great service ! off the beaten track from the main square but worth it, coffee very bitter but didn't ruin a good meal

A set menu for €20 with a great selection of French dishes. A choice of five starters, mains and deserts. Excellent food plus menu in English if required. A la carte also available. Always eat here when in the area. View menu

Dishes are good, Desserts and Wines too ! Welcome is polite and friendly, Prices are lower than near the Cathedral ! The Boss had a good idea to translate the menus in foreign languages, even if he can't say one word in Japanese !

We have been in sourh of France for a week and eat at least once a day in a restaurant. We look for local cuisine at a reasonable price. This is definitely one of those gems. We had snails, duck and desert. Every dish was perfect and scumptious. The Galliac white wine was also not too expensive.

Slightly away from the main square and close to the Madeline Bridge, had a delightful 3 course formula meal which both of us thought was excellent quality and value. Being a Wednesday, was very quiet with only one other couple whilst other more tourist locations enjoyed greater custom.....their loss as the menu was well priced and local wine enjoyable. Stay away from the tourist-traps placed in the vicinity of the cathedral: they all serve the same commercial (bad) stuff. This small restaurant, on the contrary - placed just a bit off the beaten paths - is a "real" restaurant, not a "gourmet" one, but will serve you tasty food in the local style with simplicity and competence. We enjoyed our meals and prices were reasonable.

This small restaurant has three lunch menus - 15, 19 and 23 euros. We happily chose the 15 euro 3-course menu that has a choice of three dishes per course. Because this restaurant is off the beaten track for most tourists, it wasn't crowded and the food is good, old-fashioned French cooking. The staff are friendly and helpful. The final bill was 55 euros for food and drinks which was perfect for our Sunday. Afterwards we walked down to the Tarn to look at the enormous catfish and trout in the shallows of the river.

"Our second night in Albi and two restaurants we wanted to visit in the evening were closed. We decided to venture to a small local Vietnamese restaurant that received only 11 reviews but all very good and from French visitors. We arrived early and we're the only customers but received a friendly greeting in French with little English but a willingness to work with our very limited language skill. We decided on the fixed price menu at 17Euros a person. My husband had the shrimp salad, the beef with onions and peppers with rice all very fresh tasting and the salad had wonderful and crunchy ingredients in a lightly creamed dressing. I chose the beef and nem...a lovely dish with ginger spiced noodle, small slices of perfectly tender beef and two small fried rolls stuffed with finely shredded veggies and meat. My main dish was the shrimp (crevettes) Thailandaise a most delicious combination of crisp onion, cabbage, and a fantastic spiced cream sauce. I was told it was spicy but without the final dash of hot sauce it had just the right amount of zip. Both of us had the banana flambé to finish. This was just the right amount of food...not so much food that it could be shared. The cost including a lovely bottle of Gaillac Rouge was about 47 Euros. We feel this was a wonderful and very pleasant dinner and well worth the price. Thanks again to Evean our waitress and her parents the chefs!"
