"We went to Pinte Besson specifically for the fondue, based primarily on TripAdvisor reviews. It was a good choice, because we really wanted a traditional fondue experience before leaving Switzerland, and this place delivers the tradition. The restaurant dates from around 1790, and it looks it on the inside. Fondue is only served on the ground floor of the restaurant due to the rickety old stairs that leads to the second floor, and when you see the stairs you will know why. No one should risk climbing up what is basically a ladder with a pot of molten cheese. Anyway, the atmosphere is great, and there is a very cool brick archway that comprises much of the ceiling. The fondue was very flavorful. We had bread, potatoes, and onions for dipping into the cheese. We didn't know that groups of four typically only order fondue for two, so we had a ton if cheese we couldn't finish. If you go there for fondue, count the members of your group and divide by two when ordering or you will be swimming in cheese. As we only ordered fondue, I cannot comment on the other menu items. The staff was very nice and patient with us English language speakers. One waitress spoke excellent English and joked around with us a bit. We dressed up a little to go to dinner, but that was definitely not necessary. It's a very casual place. There is no air conditioning, and it was really quite warm in there, which was pretty uncomfortable. It's 24 CH per person for fondue, which I found to be appropriate for what you get. Don't hesitate to try Pinte Besson if you want some traditional Swiss food."

If you want to have some classic Swiss comfort food then go here. Good cheese fondue, really lovely Rosti dishes. Not too expensive (for Lausanne anyway). We went on a Thursday night and didn't need to book. View menu

I had a fondue and a lovely board of cold cuts. I enjoyed everything but unfortunately it was too much for me so I couldn't eat the dessert which was included in the menu. The waitress was kind enough to take my glass of wine off the bill since I didn't get the dessert.

Restaurant in the center of Lausanne, with a nice setting and atmosphere. Offers very good Swiss and local dishes! The service was not very friendly and almost stole 80. from us! We were also surprised that this restaurant, which offers local dishes, serves “Guaranteed Price” bread from the Coop.

Quaint old pub at rue d l'ale 4. Very friendly service - we only popped in for a quick drink late morning to rest our weary feet and were given a free platter of nibbles comprising salami, gherkins, bread! Pity we'd had a big breakfast at our hotel and not very hungry as the main meals coming out of the kitchen looked and smelt delicious. The toilets were up a steep winding staircase so may not be suitable for anyone with mobility problems. View menu

The staff is efficient and friendly. The cuisine is excellent, the menu is made up of refined brasserie dishes. There are not many dishes which demonstrates a certain quality and the use of local products. The atmosphere is very friendly and warm, the lower room is made of stone and the upper one is made of wood, with a legendary staircase in the middle that you absolutely must see. This restaurant has existed since 1780 and is the oldest in Lausanne. You absolutely have to go there once to discover it.

Family & friends celebrating a graduation decided on fondue. Based on other reviews we chose this venue. The 'Moitie- Moitie' ( 2 types of cheese) fondue was delicious. We preferred ours with the steamed potatoes rather than bread. The room in which fondue is served is small and cosy but easily accessible for one of our party in a wheelchair. The one thing to be aware of is the very tight spiral staircase up to the bathrooms. A peril in high heels or for those who might have enjoyed a little too much alcohol!
