"Positioned as one of the better restaurants in the Angouleme area, this establishment is an oasis, surrounded by the largely industrial area of Gond Pomtouvre, but tucked away in a quiet idyllic spot next to the river, where the loudest noise is made by the water in the millstream! Taking on board the comments of Christine D and Charlotte M, we found the waiting staff very efficient and well drilled, but rather serious hardly a smile anywhere! We chose the 3 course Menu Cascade at €25, beef cheek salad, swordfish then a baked apple for dessert. The meal was attractively served and enjoyable, but the portions were not the most generous. The small fish fillet was served on a spoonful of vegetables and with a little cold tomato salsa on top. We thought the baked apple dessert was rather cheeky; there's hardly a cheaper thing to make and for €25 we thought this menu was expensive, but on a par with similar places in the area. It's a great place to go if its a warm sunny day when you can sit outside on a balcony next to the river, but sitting inside in the winter it could be less so.."

A brilliantly situated dining room, right on the river, with a beautiful verdant view. The service is professional and the food excellent.

A delicious lunch by the river with friends. The food was delicious, in particular the starters which were exceptional and beautifully presented. The staff were efficient and friendly. Will definitely go back if in the area. View menu

We decided to go here for lunch as we had read many good reviews of the food and the location. We were very disappointed with the food and the service we received. The formula was just frites and steak which was very tough. We were placed in a corner away from everyone else and it was obvious that they did not want us there. We regularly eat out at gourmand restaurants but this is one we will not be going back to.

We stayed here for two nights in June 2016. The restaurant is very good, the food interesting and well presented. The location is wonderful right by the river weir. The rooms in the hotel however, although spacious with an outside terrace over the river are a little basic, thin mattresses and thin towels. Most disappointing however was the indifference of the staff, they clearly cared not who was staying in their hotel !

Stayed here at the end of August 2017. Great position right on the river bank with a mill stock flowing past, Had a very comfortable room overlooking the river opening onto a large first floor terrace shared with several other rooms. The terrace could do with some smartening up with planters or dividers, and the entrance to the hotel is rather bleak with no garden or soft landscaping. We arrived to a fairly cool welcome just before they shut for the afternoon, and shut means shut, there is no reception open or way into the hotel. Once in however, the food was excellent, both in quality and variety, and a good satnav will take you to the door through the maze of streets View menu

The restaurant also has a hotel side, hence the web-site, we only tried the restaurant, which is situated along side the Charente River in Angouleme, although strictly a suburb of Gond Pontouvre. We dined inside in April, although there is seating outside and during the warmer summer months it will be most enjoyable to dine outside over looking the river and the wild-life. This is now my favourite summer restuarant for dining out and we will be returning. The price was very reasonable, we had the €34 menu and a bottle of rose wine and bottle of water made the bill €40 each for 4 people. We did have a bottle of champagne to start as a celebration was in order and that was compatible to any si...

We had lunch here 3 years ago and were charmed by the ambience of the setting. Eating al fresco on a balcony overlooking a river weir is a great experience. However, the staff were efficient but unsmiling, just as they were 3 years ago! We chose a €27 2 course set meal (very expensive in itself) comprising 6 oysters or (cold) pea soup starter and lamb or salmon main course -hardly exotic or costly to produce. The presentation was good but quantities were small (as last time). We decided to have a dessert to fill up, to find that the 2 dessert choices both contained strawberries (which i can't eat). Who decided that menu?!. We were told we could have creme brulee instead, so we did. When we g...

"I had not intended eating out as I had had a decent and large picnic. It was the weekend of the Circuit des Remparts so every where was packed. The 'Bistroc' was equally busy but I saw rognons de veau on the menu ('Carte') so I asked if they could serve me. They said there would be a long delay but I could sit at the bar and have a drink if I didn't mind waiting. As I had time on my hands I was quite content to sit with a beer reading a book. Eventually after half an hour i was approached by one of the two (I presume ) owners and asked if I had ordered. I said not and he proclaimed himself 'desolee' taking my order. 10 or 15 minutes later I was presented with a magnificent steak - I think a cote de beouf - which I would have readily tucked into. Sadly not what I had ordered. More apologies and eventually the rognons de veau arrived. Nicely cooked, no sauce but good 'frites' and salad. I completed the meal with cafe gourmand, not spectacular but perfectly acceptable. When the bill arived they did not charge me for either my beer or the wine with my meal - quite unnecessary but hey insisted. This place is an old fashioned grill with great atmosphere - aided or hindered by two children of one or both of the patron(ne)s who raced around the place chasing each other and flirting with custommers. High quality food unpretentiously cooked. although I concede not cheap.Despite being rushed off their feet the two front of house staff I assume, the owners made every possible effort to make the cusommmers welcome.A very enjoyable evening."
