"We invariably come here. After watching the cricket at Lords, twenty minutes walk away, we stop by for dinner on the way to Paddington, for the trip back to the West Country. It is important to book ahead if you want to be sure of a table. This place is very popular and fills up quickly for good reason. Read on.For a few years here was the only purveyor of this nations food and even now, one of only a half dozen or so restaurants from Burma (Myanmar) It really is a good find the Mandalay in Edgware Road. For those not familiar with Burmese cuisine, they draw their inspiration from surrounding countries, but roughly, if you think of a combination of Indian Chinese, you won’t be far wrong and this should hit the right taste buds for most of us. Curries, rice or noodle dishes, salads and fried snacks are combined into innovative dishes with herbs and spices, hot, sweet or sour that will delight your palette. Also there is no shortage of original dishes for those who prefer vegetarian options. This summers day (June 2016) having watched England make a somewhat slow start against Sri Lanka on the first day of the Third Test, we stopped by to find the place redecorated, with high backed chairs and a more tastefully minimalist decor. There had been a revamp of the menu also, but our welcome, the food quality and presentation were as good as we remembered.Price wise, it’s a steal. You wouldn’t think you were in London at all just a hop and a skip from pricey St John’s Wood. There are a lot of ethnic places to eat in Edgware Road, but the Mandalay is one of the most reasonably priced of many of them. Worth a visit and a few repeat visits afterward."

With my father having been born in Rangoon (even though he is of Indian heritage), Burmese food has always played a part in our lives.

I walk past the place where this restaurant used to operate every day. It has been closed for months and months probably since early in 2016. Any recent reviews are pure fiction !

I love this restaurant charming atmosphere, amazing and authentic food. Sadly it hasn't been open for a while now, perhaps even since Covid in 2020. Does anyone have any news or an update? I'd love for this gem of a restaurant to open up again. View menu

You really can't fault the welcome or the food you get here although it looks rather scruffy almost unloved from the outside. I'm sure this doesn't put off those in the know but it won't encourage passers by to pop in try as there is a lot of competition in the area.

A great find. Treated very warmly as soon as my wife, daughter and I stepped in. Tried the papaya salad, noodles in fish with coconut sauce and chicken chilli rice and so pleasantly surprised by the great taste and lack of oily residue we find in so many places serving eastern cuisine.

Our group had a stellar dinner at Mandalay! We enjoyed the cucumber papaya salad (amazing!! , shrimp egg rolls, lamb danbauk (wow!! and the twice-cooked fish (fish curry . This is seriously one of the best meals in London, and you can’t beat the price. Visit Dwight at the Mandalay, and sit back and enjoy the fantastic food. View menu

We have been to Mandalay many times when it was located on Edgware Road, and were delighted to find that it has returned to Kilburn High Road. The host-owner is welcoming and warm, and the service is lovely. The food is fantastic; the tea leaf salad is a must try and everything else is simply beautiful. The prices are low. Don't be fooled by the somewhat shabby entrance; the interior is attractive and the seating is very comfortable. Highly recommended, don't miss out!

I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a few years, so I was eager to finally dine here. After doing some research online, I was excited to try the chicken khausay and lamb tamarind, along with the tea leaf salad and spring rolls. However, I was disappointed to find that the food was only average, if not slightly below average. The shrimp spring rolls lacked flavor and the filling was unremarkable. The tea leaf salad, which I expected to be refreshing like a mango or papaya salad, was mainly roasted peanuts with very few vegetables and strands of cucumber, making it rich and difficult to eat. The chicken coconut noodle soup, despite looking good in photos, tasted like tinned coconut m...

"The decor of the restaurant is really lovely. We were greeted as soon as we arrived. We placed our orders quite briskly. We received complimentary bread and olives, which was a nice touch. Our Bruchetta starter arrived a whole hour after we arrived, which was disappointing and far too long to wait for a cold and easy starter. The menu did not specify that the prawns on one of the bruschettas were raw! The waiter said service was slow because they were busy with Uber Eats and Deliveroo. Clearly not prioritising paying customers, who pay a 12.5% service charge, unlike online customers. Eventually, our main courses arrived. My pasta was only just cooked, so close to being undercooked and hard. They ran out of ricotta and replaced it with the tiniest amount of cheese so I asked for some more. Since ricotta was supposed to be the main ingredient of the dish. The tuna steak was lovely, and the veal could have done with a thinner breadcrumb batter. The sides, chips and zucchini, were £4.50 and very small portions for such a cheap side. So that was slightly disappointing. Overall, the pinot grigio white wine was very drinkable, and they brought tap water when we asked for it. And the whole staff were very polite. It was a shame the service was so slow, and the food could have been better for the price that it was. We also felt it was overpriced for the location it was, zone 2 London and not in the West End."
