"As a solo eater, this looked warm and welcoming place to eat. We shall see.... I ordered a minestrone soup as something basic and quick but to my dismay saw a group of four enter, take their place, ponder the menu and receive their starters,...all after I’d sat down and ordered! How difficult can a minestrone soup be???? That upset me but I’m happy to wait for the main course, a simple spaghetti carbonara.... what could go wrong? Having placed pepper on my table they took it away to serve another table, but brought it back, only to take it away again, never to be seen without asking again!!!! Main course was small so no chance of getting full and I sat eating pondering a kebab on the way home! Maybe this was just an off night, but I’ve eaten better in Hamburg! Pretty disappointed to be honest! I had to ask for bread The Lambrusco was red without advising Bit the meal was okay... nothing to write hone about except on here but not offensive! I’ve had better Italian in almost every city I’ve eaten Italian in, but I’ve had worse! Staff are friendly if inattentive but what can they do if there’s nothing to serve you.. that kebab is looking even better as I write this! Strange... not awful but won’t be back! Such a shame as it should be good if looks from the street are anything to go by"

We came as a group of 13 with no reservation and had a very good time between friends. The service and the food is excellent and the place is welcoming and warm. Great trattoria.

This was recommended to us by our guide and we were not disappointed. A wonderful old intimate place with amazing smells and service that is very personal. I must say that this was also very good value too. View menu

Tucked away in a side street just off the mayhem that is the Reeperbahn this cosy Italian was lovely. The gentleman who served us was a character, alternating between German, Italian and smatterings of English. Great pasta pizza and a nice Chianti! Would definitely...go back

Great house wine by the carafe, great specials, great food. Heads up, they dont take Visa. Luckily there was an ATM around the corner leave the restaurant, turn left, you’ll see it quickly. We didn’t find out until we tried to pay so come prepared...: food is amazing and authentic reminded us of some favorite meals in Italy View menu

We had read that if we turned into a random alley off the Reeperbahn we would be rewarded. We did and we were. A very small spot serving simple Italian food that my wife and I absolutely loved. This is not a nice new establishment...serving New versions of classic dishes. This is a tight place, thick with wonderful smells, delicious food and abundant character. Come here to eat and live well in an establishment built on skills and the embrace of the daily work required of us all. We will never forget this meal.

Wow! This small restaurant in the heart of St. Pauli was the first place we had dinner when we first arrived in Hamburg. It was just a cross the street from Schlemmereck Where we spent most of our days Great restaurant, super friendly staff and...amazing food. I have never in my life felt more wellcome in any other restaurant. From we first stepped inside till we walkef out, the staff was there for us, the manager, the waiters and the chefs. The prizes where also friendly. And they where also OK with us coming to buy coffee and bring a cross the street, As long as we came back with the cups. We will be back in july next year, cant wait. Thanks from me and from Turbojugend Troms

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember. The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity. The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
