"We must have gone on a bad night! The prawns were overcooked and were in a very bland sauce. We didn 't taste any garlic in it. The 'legendary '! fish soup had no chunks of fish in it, only very small pieces. My John Dory was tiny and despite being small and thin was partly raw and I had to send it back. There wasn 't a noticeable amount of lemon, butter and parsley sauce with it either. I didn 't bother with a replacement 10-15 minute wait I was told and instead had some of my wife 's salmon which was exactly as described on the menu, large and very nice. The John Dory was taken off the bill. The dauphinoise was partly burnt and served in a dish with burnt food all over the sides which made it look like it had never been washed properly. We were very disappointed after seeing the good reviews."

Just a nice evening. Good food, wine, and service, led by the owner who obviously enjoys pleasing his customers. This is not a tasting menu experience and is all the better for it.

We visited to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The menu was very interesting with a wide variety of dishes to choose from. The food was superb and the service was excellent. We cannot wait to return.

I had an amazing dining experience with excellent service at this restaurant. Highly recommend. Despite its small size, the food and wine were outstanding and reasonably priced. The host was also great. View menu

A restaurant that oozes atmosphere with incredible food. We visited as a party of 6 to celebrate the restaurant 35th anniversary. With Cai front of house Dave in the kitchen with his guest chef, Chris Tull what could go wrong ? Absolutely nothing. Atmosphere 5/5 Food 5/5 Service 5/5

This restaurant offers an amazing meal experience. With a wide variety of options for appetizers and main courses, it can be difficult to decide what to order. There are plenty of fish dishes available, but the menu is not limited for those who do not prefer fish. The service is excellent - friendly and efficient without being rushed. Overall, this restaurant comes highly recommended!

Great Sunday lunch. £25 for 2 courses and a few pounds more £28.50 for 3 . Usual menu . Really enjoyed our visit . Clientele today mostly over 70 I’d say but a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. A little formal . Lots of authentic choices I opted for the soup then the vegetarian . My dad worked his way through 3 courses , a Pernod and rose with his duck . Will definitely go back. Shame I was driving ! View menu

Smashing ambience, lovely service, top class, authentic food, notably bouillabaisse style soup, and perfectly cooked fish with a choice of sauces. The owner/ Maitre d' could not be more charming. The prices are fair- about £130 for three courses, 2 kirs, and a delicious bottle of St. Nicolas de Bourgeuil. (Tip- light Loire reds age well and go with anything- you're welcome). Hugely recommended. If you are mean and/ or a recovering alcoholic, you can eat well for about £30 a head for three courses. This was our second visit in about three weeks. It really is a must visit location.

We last ate at Paysanne six years' ago, thus we were undoubtedly due a return visit. Pros Notably friendly and welcoming. Cai Ross (proprietor) is a legend and adds to the evening. Very good service, including some good recommendations. We had an excellent table (first right as you enter the dining room). The food is appropriately priced and good value for money. A nice, atmosphere with an air of faded gentility. Cons Very much an ageing clientele. Limited choice for vegetarians (but the dishes on offer are of good quality). My poire pochee dessert was disappointing. This is not a pretentious French restaurant; it's as close as you'll get to a French restaurant in Wales. It is definitely wor...

"Whenever I get the inclination to write a review it’s usually because it’s so good and I want to shout about my experience to everyone… however this is not my usual 5* recommendation! As locals we have visited this cafe on a few occasions for breakfast or a coffee stop. It’s a great location, nice decor, dog friendly and delicious food. What’s not to like? Well, the staff, or more specifically the owner! She lacks any customer service skills, she smiles through gritted teeth, orders her staff around while she stands observing (or waiting for an argument . Each time we’ve visited she’s had an issue with something. Once she argued with me because I asked for my latte to be served in a cup rather than a tall glass. She proceeded to try and educate me on coffee making (I’m barista trained ! She reluctantly gave me it to me in a mug with a jug of extra milk which wouldn’t fit into the mug anyway! More recently we arrived, it was quiet, and chose to sit in the window (the largest table as we had our dog and didn’t want him to be in the way. She rushed over and demanded we sat at another table because she “couldn’t afford for us to take up a larger table”. We moved without an issue but she was very confrontational (as always and made the rest of our dining experience uncomfortable. So uncomfortable in fact that despite being ravenous we almost didn’t order. The cafe remained quiet throughout our time there, plenty of empty tables and yet she proceeded to use the larger window table to accommodate her staff, herself and a friend who popped in. How is that fair? So my advice to you as a fellow catering/ hospitality manager is… Learn from your Trip Advisor feedback, Book yourself on a free customer service course and lead by example and if you are worried about costs reduce the number of staff. 5 staff on duty in a cafe that seats approx 25 people at full capacity is not needed. Maybe the owner should put her feet up at home and let the lovely younger people do their thing. They all look so nervous around her and are almost too afraid to speak. I’m sure they’d do a far better job without her monitoring their every move. Even the Chef (her husband maybe? looks petrified of her!! Certain people are not cut out for customer facing roles and she is one of them! I’m pretty sure she doesn’t read any of these reviews as she’s been like this since my first visit 5 years ago!! What a shame. This place could be a thriving business and a welcoming village cafe but I’m sure her confrontational attitude and unwelcoming nature put people off from returning. Such a shame as the food and coffee are delightful"
