"We have followed the recommendation of the owner of B&B where we had booked our stay close to Brive-La Gaillard where all the hotels where fully booked due an important book exhibition in town. The place is very modest and menu offer quite poor. We had one salade niçoise and one steak hache: large portions of poor quality as well as the icecream for dessert, tasteless and not freshly prepared. Unfortunately it's rathere expensive in relation of what you get. The waitress was quite brusk and annoyed. Not recommended."

Beautiful place, small random stop for a small coffee. The inside is really worth the detour.

Friendly restaurant with beautiful aquarium. A generous kitchen, the flats were copied and warmly served for a very reasonable price. Bravo to the whole team

Great ambience but a great pity about the food. Worst steak I have ever had to try and eat ad somehow my wife only got a salad. Service also was very poor. Great blues band.

Very rich, not too fat, very hot. Long service (world bcp. Animation by Denis Causse not up to our expectations. Ns asks for our musical choices, he does not respect them and ns retorts that he deserves better than that and that he does real music (his repertoire is not extended to French singers Sardou style, Sébastien....

Recommended by our B&B Host, this out of the way restaurant in the village of Varetz is well known to locals, but a hidden gem for tourists. The steak hache is briliant way better than the usual steak burger and the equal of any escalope boueff at half the price. Have it with potato dauphinoise for a true French dinner treat. Excellent value for money too.

"We called in here for a spot of lunch on the way back from the airport and what a popular place it was. Although when we arrived there were all of 3 diners (2 outside in the courtyard and 1 inside) so it seemed strange that the waitress consulted with a colleague when I asked for a table for 2. She smiled and showed us to an outside table and over the next half an hour or more we watched on as probably another 3 dozen guests slowly appeared in their 2’s, 3’s and 4’s. It was easy to understand why, as the food was plentiful, well cooked and tasty but a downside of the numbers was that service was painfully slow. Sadly I could not determine if the day was a ‘one-off’ due to a large party booking or whether Le Julien is such a popular eaterie for local office staff that this is an everyday occurence. Either way the hour and three-quarters for just 3 courses was excessive as the delay was due to volume of numbers and limited servers rather than being left time between courses as some restaurants like to do. It was just as well that time wasn’t a concern for us as there is nothing worse than having to keep one eye on the clock and the other on the waiting staff whilst one is trying to eat. A shame, as it detracted from a pleasant lunch. St Julien’s location on the busy Varetz-Objat road meant that there wasn’t even a nice view to compensate, the courtyard behind the metal entrance doors from the street just contained tables of diners sitting under large canopy type umbrellas. Lunch itself when it came was delicious, and the 2 waiting staff pleasant and friendly. Goats Cheese was the starter with lardons, lettuce and tomato. Nice to see lettuce in its place rather than randomly appearing on the plate as it does in some restaurants (and on main courses too). The Plat was Cuisse de Poulet served (for France) with a voluminous number of carrots and a ratatouille type sauce. Dessert was in the form of an equally voluminous Mango Mousse with a crumble topping. The coffee conclusion appeared very quickly as a lot of guests had left by this point, and was actually very strong, almost bitter in taste, the kind that milk would not calm, only sugar."
