"AVOID AT ALL COSTS. RUDE STAFF AND TERRIBLE FOOD!! The reviews are lies. I went into the red lion as I had seen so many amazing reviews about how fantastic the food and service was. I am under the influence that those reviews could only have been written by the owners friends and family as this was absolutely not the case last night. My friend and I arrived at 6:45pm, we ordered our food and drinks at the same time at 7:15pm this was the first time the waitress had come over to us so we took the opportunity to order everything then. Our food did not arrive at our table until 8:05pm. But we were the lucky ones, as there were two other tables with families on who had been there before we had even arrived and they were STILL waiting for their food. Unfortunately after the long wait the food was absolutely disgusting! I ordered a burger and chips. My burger was stone cold and burnt (but the plate was hot) which suggests it’s been sat under a hot lamp and my chip were rock solid. My friend had the chicken breast which was also cold, and the vegetables were also rock hard. One of the ladies from one of the two families politely went over to ask the staff where their food was as my friend and I came in before them and why was it that they were still waiting? The staff launched across the bar and started verbally abusing this poor lady shouting “it’s not our fault we only have one chef! What do you want me to do?!? I’ll take it off your bill if you’re that bothered”. The lady walked back to her table and you could see the upset in her face as she just politely asked a question. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from the staff and the food was vile. Would not even feed my dog it."

Really great Sunday dinner! The viola wine was great! And the pear rhubarb crumb also went down a leak.

Always a good lunch and friendly staff. We have two young children, and they were welcomed and food options for one with a milk allergy. A little more than your usual chain pub experience.

Charming pub with excellent staff and delicious food. I chose to dine here due to my family's history with the Windebanks, and it turned out to be a delightful visit. Price per person: £70-£80. Food: 5/5, Service: 5/5, Atmosphere: 5/5.

Awful staff. Probably the most unfriendly staff I have encountered at a pub in this area. You'd think they would want the custom after being in lockdown for so long. Definitely won't won't going back anytime soon far better pubs to go to locally around pangbourne and goring area

We had a really lovely Sunday Lunch there today. The homemade soup was amazing followed by roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and several veg. Finally homemade apple crumble and real custard. We will be going again soon. Thanks to Vin and Gina for making the pub a place you just love to visit.

Got there on a Thursday which is burger night. I had the chicken burger which was pretty good and they had a nice selection of beer on draft. My friends had the bangers and mash but weren't as pleased with the food. The pub still feels pretty new and somewhat lacks a proper cozy atmosphere. Nonetheless my experience was positive and would come back.

Started off with drinking an Ale. Choice of three. This was excellent. No issues with the quality. Driving do could only have the one. For lunch I ate fish and chips. This was excellent. The batter was light and crisp, the chips were chunky and excellent. A couple of nice sides, mint peas, mayo and tomato sauce. Another diner asked for French fries instead of chunky chips and received these. My partner went for two small dishes, Scotch egg made with a black pudding crust. The yolk was lovely and runny. Her other dish was some lovely prawns, presented in a bowl of sauce with chillies. She was very pleased. The service was pleasant, we were made to feel welcome.

A hidden jewel! Even if it is classified as a casual dining place, the quality of the food was impressive and the interior recalls a high-end dinner in London. The service was great and the staff were very helpful when it was about deciding what to eat. While we were waiting for our food, we had the opportunity to walk through the restaurant, which has a gallery of pictures depicting the village and the local landscapes. The duck for a starter had ordered a very good combination of aromas and herbs. The wine recommended to add the steak was also spot-on. After dinner we moved to the bar area where we dance and sing a live performance for some Friday nights. In any case, a visit would recomme...
