"We enjoyed several meals here on our recent visit to Devon. As usual, they were delicious and the inn welcoming and comfortable. All the necessary anti-Covid precautions are in place but unobtrusive. This is a very special place with a long history, and for the twenty or so years we have been coming here it has been a delight. We are sure it will remain so for centuries to come! The Royal Inn scallops are a particular highlight, and my venison in a chocolate and chilli sauce was superb. The meat simply melted in the mouth. There is an excellent selection of drinks and the beer is very well-kept. The Royal Inn is the very best of British pubs!"

We had two meals over a long weekend. Food was lovely, particularly enjoyed the Pheasant casserole. Nice pint of Mena Dhu. Nice company, landlord very friendly. Would recommended.

Visited the pub yesterday for a drink in the lovely sunshine, our first pint since December! Service was super speedy and the landlord was as usual chatty and smiley, will definitely be returning when the sun comes back out to play.

A little hidden gem: unassuming from the outside but great food, beers, and wine list. Wide range of starters beyond the normal (e.g. duck gyoza) and pub classic mains, all executed well. Scallops are a must. The landlord is a lovely bloke with many tales to tell.

Absolutely blown away by the fantastic food prepared at the pub. All very fresh and cooked to perfection. Staff are friendly and the service is brilliant. Beautiful views to see the sunset from the outside area. I definitely recommend anyone in the area to visit Royal Inn.

Ok. Just got married. On very local “honeymoon” in area I grew up. 9 mile walk to pub for lunch but closed as it’s Monday. Gutted. It’s hot an we need a beer. Landlord hears us talking, comes out and offers us beers, despite being day off. Fantastic. Made my day. Thank you.

Was staying up the road at Beera farmhouse and hosts recommended this pub for dinner and we weren't disappointed. Food was really good in taste and size. Owner of the pub was nice and friendly came over for a chat. With covid everything was done safely and cleanly. Highly recommend.

This was our first meal back inside the pub since lockdown. We had had some lovely takeaways in July but it was great to be able to eat inside this characterful pub and enjoy the atmosphere. The Royal's scallops are delicious we started with these. I then had a tasty skate steak dish and my partner enjoyed a juicy sirloin, cooked to perfection. A very special place!

This pub was suggested to us by our hosts at Beera Farmhouse, and it was an excellent choice! The inside of the pub is very characteristic and rustic, mixing a cosy local atmosphere while keeping the area spotless and professional. The hamburgers were huge and amazing, washed down with great local beers and chats with the friendly landlord and his wife. We'll definitely recommend this place and would happily come back when in the area again!

"Gidleigh Park is a country house located in a wooden wally in Devon. It is quite hard to reach the place on a very narrow road, which is very beautiful, but apparently during the winter larger cars can’t even get there. Gidleigh Park houses a two-Michelin star restaurant with Michael Caines as the main chef (the restaurant was recently voted number 1 restaurant in the UK by the Harden’s Sunday Times Food List 2014). Gidleigh Park also has bedrooms (apparently all individual in style and design) and you can stay there for the night and then wonder in the gardens of the estate, which I saw some people doing when I was there. I was visiting Devon and my boyfriend chose Gidleigh Park for lunch on a Sunday and we took the long and narrow road to Gidleigh Park. The inside of the house was very old and had a lot of charm. It had eclectic art and antiques and different style rooms, the lounge had different tables, chairs and the bar was done up in a completely different style. Gidleigh Park showcased British charm and elegance. You could chose to have their signature sample menu for £140/ person, but instead we went for the much cheaper version, their lunch set menu for £44/ person for 3 courses (you could also have 4 courses for £57). Also note choosing dishes a la carte would set you back £115, so the lunch menu seems like the cheapest way how to enjoy Gidleigh Park. We did not have any wine, but apparently thy have an amazing wine cellar. The three course lunch menu included a small appetizer, a starter and a main course and you could choose from one of the 3 starters and one of the 3 main courses. Our appetizer was “goat’s cheese foam with beetroot jelly, candied walnuts and granny smith apple”, but as my boyfriend does not like goats’ cheese he had a tuna tartar as his appetizer which actually looked better than my appetizer. I was not to"
