"Gidleigh Park is a country house located in a wooden wally in Devon. It is quite hard to reach the place on a very narrow road, which is very beautiful, but apparently during the winter larger cars can’t even get there. Gidleigh Park houses a two-Michelin star restaurant with Michael Caines as the main chef (the restaurant was recently voted number 1 restaurant in the UK by the Harden’s Sunday Times Food List 2014). Gidleigh Park also has bedrooms (apparently all individual in style and design) and you can stay there for the night and then wonder in the gardens of the estate, which I saw some people doing when I was there. I was visiting Devon and my boyfriend chose Gidleigh Park for lunch on a Sunday and we took the long and narrow road to Gidleigh Park. The inside of the house was very old and had a lot of charm. It had eclectic art and antiques and different style rooms, the lounge had different tables, chairs and the bar was done up in a completely different style. Gidleigh Park showcased British charm and elegance. You could chose to have their signature sample menu for £140/ person, but instead we went for the much cheaper version, their lunch set menu for £44/ person for 3 courses (you could also have 4 courses for £57). Also note choosing dishes a la carte would set you back £115, so the lunch menu seems like the cheapest way how to enjoy Gidleigh Park. We did not have any wine, but apparently thy have an amazing wine cellar. The three course lunch menu included a small appetizer, a starter and a main course and you could choose from one of the 3 starters and one of the 3 main courses. Our appetizer was “goat’s cheese foam with beetroot jelly, candied walnuts and granny smith apple”, but as my boyfriend does not like goats’ cheese he had a tuna tartar as his appetizer which actually looked better than my appetizer. I was not to"

for the afternoon after gidleigh. it was worth every penny. it was really lovely and it was nice to feel full and not like so many other places where they feel torn off with the lack of food. the personal was exceptionally helpful without being on them. really relaxing and highly recommended.

We were given a full tea as a joint birthday present and it was a wonderful experience! My husband isn’t easily impressed, but he was won over by the beautiful Edwardian house and grounds and the fab food and Darjeeling tea. The staff were friendly but unobtrusive -just right. We’ve told all our friends about our lovely afternoon.

sublime, absolutely sublime. the finest meal I've ever eaten, or will eat, probably. such love for detail in every element. so beautiful to see, as inventively presented and the aromen were from this world. the personal was also exceptional. professional, friendly, but friendly and not sniffing at all. Yes, it's expensive, but, my goodness, what an experience.

Just the most exceptional food it's been my privilege to taste! Exquisite flavours in the most sublime dishes. I cannot rate Chef Michael Wignall and his brigade highly enough. Service was first class too from start to finish attention to detail was incredible. Our bedroom was beautifully furnished and a tray of tea delivered first thing this morning was most welcomed for a short while I felt like the Lady of the Manor! Can't wait to repeat the experience later in the year. Thank you for the memories!

I was lucky to have been taken to gidleigh for the 40th birthday. from beginning to end, the visit was exquisite. the staff were exceptionally attentive, the hotel is wonderfully decorated and full of character. our room had a magnificent view over the picturesque garden and the jacuzzi was beautiful! the eating. the eating! gidleigh park has been eating on my bucket list for years, and there is always the risk that the building up of such high expectations leads to disappointment. it has surpassed everything I hoped. the 10-speed cut-off menu was very well thought out and just tasted divine, I would recommend the accompanying weinflug also with every paired glass perfectly to compromise the...

"I am wondering whether we went to another place in a parallel universe- so I have triple checked it is the same place. We were here for what was supposed to be an evening of dinner and drinks and turned out to be an episode of Faulty Towers. Shocking food and unprofessional service BUT our sides were splitting – best entertainment EVER: • One of our party was asked if her was a fortune teller because he was brown • Freshly opened bottle of prosecco flat????? Guinness was very poor • Very limited menu of which, lasagne was dry, reheated with wilted, softened cheese on top. The pie managed the feat of having a dry filling with a wet pasty. The vegetables were boiled to within an inch of soup (my glass of water had more seasoning), The gravy was grey and awful. • One of our party ordered from the kids menu as there really was nothing he could find. Imagine our hysterics as he ordered fish goujons with no beans and a pint of larger! • The best part! The cook came out of the kitchen as we were paying and beating a hasty retreat (so I could warm up the leftovers back at home) – she was very irate when told there were 8 more people to serve. Instead of noticing paying customers and being professional, she rolled her eyes and repeated in a loud voice ‘What, 8more? When asked by the bar person if she should tell the doomed 8, food service was over, she shot back and said ‘well tell them there are no potatoes left’ and she would see what she could ‘rustle up’. Felt so bad for the lovely lady behind the bar and the others who overheard Maybe this is a one off and it was a perfect storm of an evening for them, but it was this bad. Had we not been in good spirits and able to laugh and joke together whilst on a break, I would have been truly upset."
