"I visit the Salumeria da Pino regularly since the opening in My wife Marianne and I appreciate the excellent quality and variety of the offered delicacies, as well as the incredible selection of Italian wines and spirits. So it was the avid desire of...my wife to celebrate her Birthday at this unique place. The amiable owner Pino Puglisi and his adorable and solicitous team was satisfying all our culinary desires and the served wines including aperitif and digestive have been of best Italian provenance. We started our common festivity with a bottle of perfect dry Ca’ del Bosco Vintage Collection brut and enjoyed the harmonious notes of this wonderful Lombardic Franciacorta sparkling wine. What a thrilling prelude and absolutely able to compete against the classic French champagne brands. After aperitif warming up paired with olives, best San Daniele airdried ham, thin slices of Tuscany Lardo salume, rosemary flavored boiled ham with crusty bread selection and extra virgin olive oilsalt dip, we picked out several delicious seafood based dishes from the well decorated display refrigerator. A bottle of chilled, fine balanced Trentino Alto Adige descending Sanct Valentin Sauvignon Blanc was perfect accompanying the crustaceans and other marine animal specialties. As special wine highlight we tested also a bottle of Cantina Terlan Quarz Sauvignon Blanc with rich aromas of candied fruit, apricot, honeysuckle and amazing aromatic intensity, which is really very superior by any measure. As third entrée “Super Padrone Pino” created for us homemade pasta aldente topped with thin slices of shaved white truffle. This intensive musky flavored and savory delightfulness pleases the taste buds and was an ideal dish to join to meat and red wine desires. My wife’s favorite red wine is the star of Sicily, the Contea di Sclafani Riserva del Conte of Tasca d’Almerita, also simply called Rosso del Conte. This juicy Marasca cherry nosed and flavored wine is, contrary to my wife’s perception of taste, too jammy for my palate. Therefore, I preferred to drink a fullbodied red wine with lots of tannin, more acidity and extract. Pino served me a wonderful bottle of La Spinetta Vigneto Bordnini Barbaresco made from Nebbiolo grapes. This red wine is floral and fruity with bright red fruit, fine tannins and stunning elegance, a thoroughly enjoyable Barbaresco for the selected main course meat based dishes, also taken from the display case. After these excellent culinary delights and wines it is normally impossible to outrange our expectations. Far from it, the Pino Salumeria team presented a special, for my wife created birthday dessert surprise and Marianne was in gourmand seventh heaven. We finished the birthday celebration dinner with espresso and a high class grappa digestive La Centenara Grande Riserva Anni from Destilleria Aqvileia. At the end of this unbelievable gluttony, we had waggly lower extremities, heard only our hotel bed calling and had been ready to hit the sack. To be consistently at this one of a kind delicatessen temple is simply a must for us and is worth every kilometer of our km way here. Pino we love you and truly come again to our favorite Berlin culinary venue"
