Good choices. Had a great night here really good food and good atmosphere. Services is a little odd but not bad. This restaurant has a branch in Birmingham but its not a patch on the Liverpool restaurant.

service not as well as earlier visit the eating was as always nice, but the service was not as good as previous visits, which is why only 4 stars given. we will visit again as this could have been a free day.

evening 31 January 2016. the first service was excellent, eating well. the sommelier was really helpful. the succession service was not attempted to 100% and could no longer look at the eye of a waiter at several locations.

Below average. Had been here before and food was very good,however on this visit my partner had pasta which had obviously been reheated and therefore overcooked,unforgiveable for an Italian restaurant,we complained to the manager his response was I will take it off never apologised or gave any feedback from the kitchen,poor service and poor food would not go again!

Lovely surprise. San Carlo picked the best spot for new customers like me. I happened to just stumble across San Carlo after not being able to make my mind up about where I wanted to eat but I definitely picked the best place, I was so impressed. It literally felt like being in Italy in there, and you could tell just how fresh the food was it was lovely. Normally I think I could cook the same quality food I get served in some places but I am no competition for San Carlo. Hopefully won’t be too long before my next visit.

Over rated San carlo. Nice surroundings,average food, but awful service. Crammed in like sardines, think they have got greedy. Like Butlins! Staff were miserable and as I have read on other reviews stunk of smoke too! Waiter was very rude looked at his watch twice whilst taking our order. When I suggested to the matre de that the staff made it a miserable experience he basically looked and spoke to me like muck, very patronising! Appalling, time to retire I think if he cannot take constructive criticism. Think the bubbles about to burst on this one!!

I was on Thursday in san carlo liverpool at the beginning we had half a cheese/half tomato focaccia and that was really delicious the service was absolutely fantastic. that always seems to be the case. the service is consistently good for the main thing my mother had a pasta- she said it was delicious and her favorite food she had in san carlo. I had calender, it was so fresh and delicious. my favorite was the truffle mash potatoes! they were excellent, I also had a mojito, that was really great. I am not a great drinker, but very much enjoyed it highly recommended! 5* eat and service.

The Emperor's New Clothes!. I was looking forward to trying this restaurant but left feeling disappointed and vowing never to return. The food was very nice but this can be said about many restaurants so it does not set it apart. It felt like a canteen, i.e. they had crammed as many tables into the space as possible. They also have paper tablecloths which I think is very poor for a city centre restaurant. The service could have been better. Our table was not offered back pepper or parmesan (surely the norm for an Italian restaurant) and had to ask for it. I feel that it has become the place to go in Liverpool for all the wrong reasons!

Off night?. Visited San Carlo on a Sunday evening based on a recommendation from a well travelled friend. Lets start with the positives. Wine list was excellent and the shared starter of mixed cured meat was attractive, tasty and high quality. Unfortunately, everything else was disappointing. The risotto I had was re-heated and served in a cream laden sauce to compensate for the lack of basic technique. My partners pasta arrived with a completely different sauce to the one described in the menu (creamy, with Parmesan added despite her requesting no cheese versus the tomato).
