"I'm not a fan of giving bad reviews without telling the restaurant while I am there. so I gave the team direct feedback too. Lunch for a party of 7 start at 12.30 ordered wine. Poured once. then the bottle was placed on another table. Waving at the staff had no effect, even though the waiter was 1 meter from me when I waved. I ended up getting up walking across to the other table getting the bottle and walking round the table to pour the wine myself. The waitstaff didn't even notice. which tells you a lot about a restaurant, especially one that charges premium rates. My fish was uncooked in the middle, the meal was acceptable, but the type of meal you might get in business class on an airline. competent but warmed up perhaps. I called the waiter over and told him my thoughts, we ended up pouring the wine after everyone finished their main course. The waiter said, ah yes we were very busy. In addition I ordered a small dessert, that didn't come, the coffees were served but there was one missing. I didn't have the energy to complain about the dessert at some point you decide you just want to give up. I don't know if the bad service was due to the fact that it was a table of 75 year old women apart from myself, or whether the service is generally just abysmal. The room was nice. Hence two stars, the food in my case was passable but I would not go back for the food and I would certainly not go back for the service. There was no apology at the end either. A disappointing experience."

My wife and I met some friends in this place. I was never here but my friends proposed this restaurant. The food was very good. Not cheap but fair. The service was excellent. The historic building including the furnitures, paintings and stained glass is amazing. You shouldn't miss it.

We had a great experience in the restaurant and got surprised by the tasty and home-made dishes. We had a couple of starters and gnocchi and risotto as main courses, we really recommend them! The high quality of the food together with the courteous staff made it a perfect dinner. We'll repeat for sure!

We used to eat at Schützenhaus quite a lot, since the food there is really tasty. The problem is, that the staff is rather strange sometimes even impudent. They used to make weird, inappropriate jokes and get kinda touchy. This is just unacceptable considering the rather high prices, which is why we won‘t come back.

Although relatively pricey even for Switzerland, we enjoyed a fresh spring salad (asparagus, greens and prosciutto) with a classic vinaigrette, followed by flaky grilled sea bass with sides of tender boiled potatoes and tasty spinach. We ended the meal with a soft-centered molten chocolate cake served with pistachio ice cream. The service was friendly and efficient and the beautiful terrace was the perfect setting to enjoy our first outdoor meal of the season.

I have been to lunch at Schützenhaus at least a dozen times over the past year. The venue, both onside and outdoors, is classic Swiss. Historic. The service is very professional. The one dish that stands out is the sole very tasty, and served in two portions at the table. One thing that is surprising is that the restaurant never seems too busy. It is one of my “go to” places for business lunches and weekend special meals out. It is not a cheap eat, but if you have time to enjoy a long lunch or dinner, it is worth the expense.

"Cheval Blanc is the ultimate classic French fine dining experience in Switzerland. We came here to celebrate my birthday while in Switzerland looking for a 3 Michelin stars experience. Located in the historical Grand Hotel Les Trois Rios. The riverside setting is charming and romantic. You start by a welcome drink at the terrace looking at the Rhine greeted by suited , polite and professional staff. The head chef Peter Knogl came to say hi before we moved to the main dining room and service started. The decor and interior is classy retro French with high ceilings, arches, classic chandeliers, large windows and round tables with candles. Ambience is warm and intimate. Service was top notch and impeccable. Staff were all knowledgeable with refreshing attention to details. Cuisine was modern french with Mediterranean influences, flavors were complex and dynamic. Ingredients were chosen carefully and courses were presented beautifully. I liked all of my courses, highlights of the menu were the Sardine Macaron, Langoustine curry, Red Mullet filet and the French saddle of lamb with mediterranean flavors. Wine pairing was excellent and enhanced every course taste and flavor. Sommelier was very professional and knowledgeable yet intimidating a bit. The French Cheese selections from Maître Antony in Ferrette was aromatic, rich and satisfying, Maître Antony is one of the best in the world that many Michelin starred Chefs get their fine cheeses selection from. The night ended well with a couple of delightful desserts courses, few delectable bites and some velvety chocolate. Overall, we had an elevated fine dining experience that will bring me back if in Basel again."
