"I had eaten at Shalimar several years ago while in Nantes. I decided to try it again a second time. I forgot how beautiful the interior of the Shalimar is. They placed us in a corner window and it was truly a romantic setting in an already romantic city. We had the dinner menu special being on a budget this time around. The Naan was perfectly baked. The Chicken Curry flavorful, spicy, and authentically Indian. I ordered the Rose Lassi and was surprised that it came in a pitcher that filled 4 wine glasses. I drank every drop. Dessert was some of the best Glace I have eaten in my travels around France. We entered early and by the time we left, the room was full and others were eating on outside tables. I am not surprised. It was a truly romantic restaurant and a great meal at an affordable price. I have already mentioned it to a vegan friend of ours and so we are returning to Shalimar Thursday evening."

Near the Graslin Opera house, the restaurant décor and food are excellent. The staff were very attentive. This is one of the best restaurants that I have had an Indian meal in.

I love Indian food for their variety of dishes and the spices they use. the dishes we got were of a very mild taste. Too much to my liking. I would have preferred some stronger tastes from the spices. This was missing which made the dinner for me average. View menu

The atmospher was great. However the food was served cold. Indian food is enjoyable when served hot.We felt like we were rushed to eat: as soon as we barely finish a plate, they come and ask to collect it.Conclusion: if you looked for place to enjoy a gatheting around indian food you might want to look elsewhere.

According to my experience, Indian restaurants almost always serve really good food, so maybe my standards have grown a bit higher for them than for other cuisines, and maybe that's why i feel like only awarding two stars here:There was nothing to seriously complain about, all the food was OK - but everything i was served was a bit more bland, a bit less tasty than i'm used to from other Indian restaurants: the mango lassi, the basmati rice, the baingan bharta, and even the kulfi.

Ended up in here due to a lack of choice as in August many Restaurants are closed for their summer holidays. It was quite busy, although that could have been down to the lack of alternatives. Service was ok but lacking in any personality or contact. Waiting on staff should never have any strong smelling perfume/after shave etc, unfortunately at least one of them did. Food reminded me of provincial Indian Restaurants in the 1970's. Before you settle down and order, check out the carpet (rarely have I seen a dirtier one). Overall they tried but I wouldn't go there again. View menu

We have not visited many Indian restaurants in France since we moved here a few years ago. Therefore we were excited by the reviews of this restaurant not far from our hotel where we were visiting in Nantes. The starters were good and filling. However the naans were doughy and undercooked. My husband who is a vegetarian ordered saag paneer (Spinach and Cheese curry) dish and there were just the tiny specks of what looked like melted cheese. No firm cubes of paneer that we are used to having. This made the curry stodgy and not very nice. I had the chicken and it was bland. Not much flavour. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the staff very friendly. I think some authentic Indian dishes wou...

Arrived at our hotel on Sunday eveninG, lots of restaurants closed on Sunday's and during December. Found this Indian restaurant at 20.15hrs and it was packed. We did get. Table after a very short wait. Service was quick after we had ordered. Food was good, but for English habits of eating Indian in the uk some of the food was different from what we may be used to. Different, but all the same enjoyable. Would recommend this restaurant. Service was a bit quick, in taking the order, and not a lot of time for an exchange of conversation. However when your travelling, and tired, all you really want is good good quickly and then a good nights rest. And in traditional Indian custom, even late st n...
