"On entering, we were totally ignored by the owner. We had to ask if we should be seated, and then it took about 5 minutes for the other staff member to clear the table and she didn 't wipe it clean. We weren 't greeted or smiled at, or offered options by either of the staff. Despite the fact that there were only four tables of people in the cafe, we had to wait 20 minutes for coffee and cake. The coffee and cake, to be fair, was OK. However, when we went to pay, the extremely miserable cafe owner didn 't make eye contact or smile or really acknowledge us at all. Sad as the products they were selling were pretty good, but the ambience and 'welcome ' were miserable. I really don 't like criticising a small business, but I did feel like walking out soon after we arrived. The only thing that kept us that there was little other choice in the village, although the new take out place down the road looked good, and it was only the threat of heavy rain which prevented us from sitting out on their chairs (they have very little indoor space). All in all, sadly, quite a miserable experience. Sorry but you need to up your game in the hospitality business."

We had a delightful brunch with amazing coffee. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Needless to say, we have returned to this restaurant multiple times.

We had a light lunch in this tiny safety before a steam train ride. Staff were very pleasant and informative and the food was pretty good. Nofrills, no fuss, just good food in a welcoming place

This place has sticky tables, serves tea in paper cups and you have to fish your teabag from your paper cup with a wooden spoon. Tasteless teas too. Grubby interior and the tables aren’t cleared frequently. If you can’t do a decent job, don’t bother opening. View menu

In a world dominated by Costa and Starbucks, it was a delightful surprise to discover this hidden gem. The owner puts in great effort and the scones, cakes, and coffee have a homemade touch that always makes a visit here special. I will continue to support independent businesses like this one, as they are the heart and soul of Wirksworth.

We visited the cafe when we were staying in the area. It was one of the nicest I have ever been to. The food was perfect and even though Wirksworth is a small town where everyone else in the cafe seemed to know each other, we were made so welcome by the owner. On our second visit we were greeted like old friends. I couldn't recommend this place enough.

We visited this lovely little cafe for lunch during a day out in Wirksworth. It is small but very charming. The two ladies who were serving were friendly and polite. We ate toasties which were very tasty and best of all came with a delicious side salad (salad leaves, cherry tom, cucumber, radish, peppers, pomegranate seeds and dressing . This made my day as I love a proper bit of salad!! Reasonably priced too. Plus the cafe owner (presumably gave us lots of advice on where to visit in the local area. We'd definitely go back if we were in the area. Lovely cafe in a lovely town : View menu

Absolutely Amazing. i’ve returned back to the small town of wirksworth as it is the summer holidays and came back to spend time with my family. we came to the sour cow as we use to go there last year. the place is under new management (the lady is so welcoming) we ordered some toasties and some hot drinks the drinks were bought to us within under 5 minutes which i’d say was amazing timing due to the little space that they have. for the food i had the special of the day which was a bacon, cheddar and chilli jam toastie and it was DELICIOUS. the salad on the side was also great. overall the food was amazing aswell as the service. the manager/cafe owner was welcoming and so kind. i would defini...

Please take note that the previous review mentioning only disposable cups was during the Wirksworth Festival weekend. The usual service at this restaurant includes regular cups, plates, and cutlery. I have been frequenting the Sour Cow since December 2023 and since it changed hands to a family-run establishment, Kelly has been creating a menu that caters to the tastes of the customers. The cheese toasties are amazing, the coffee is excellent, and there is always friendly conversation if you desire it. If you don't see something you like on the menu, just ask and they will try to accommodate you. The cafe is welcoming, efficient, and Kelly and her team always strive to provide the best servic...
