"I enjoyed with my man, an absolutely wonderful dinner here yesterday evening, it was wonderful. the team in the kitchen is obviously very talented and innovativ, and we ate every single piece of the generous portions of food they have prepared, even knowing that we would be...ful to burst. the croquets made me feel like I was back in bilbao, the black garlic that came with the delicious roasted artichoke, as I was in valencia, and the hammock to share as if I didn't want to be different, but eating there, just now all was brought to us by a wonderful servedam that made us feel very welcome and home in the warm, comfortable dining room. Moreover, the beer is good, and the value-to-quality ratio is excellent. I had a brilliant time, thanks to a million people involved. we'll be back."

An excellent venue for a family group, small children catered for. Staff couldn’t have been more attentive and helpful.

Always a varied and exciting menu, great wines and beers and the dining room is somehow both grand and cosy. Dogs are welcome too!

First time at St Johns, for a family dinner. Food was very good, everyone really enjoyed their choices. Selection of beers was great. Service efficient but not intrusive, all in a good atmosphere even when only half full on a Tuesday evening

Had dinner here with an old pal. We had both been to the St John's before but a long time ago. This time was a very enjoyable surprise as the food was far better than we remembered. Sadly there weren't many diners so the atmosphere...was subdued. However, this was compensated by the excellent and friendly staff and the food which was very good indeed with huge portions! Also a very unusual and interesting menu! Many thanks to all concerned.

Went for Father’s Day and picked this restaurant on the basis that the online menu had vegan options (I.e aubergine on flat bread with Harrissa), booking for at midday. No vegan options and were told that we couldn’t ask the kitchen to make something...especially as it was such a busy day. We cobbled together a salad and a main course of inedible corn husks for which we were charged a fortune. At we had only had our starters. I was embarrassed that I had taken my vegan guest here. The restaurant was full to the rafters, most people had still not been served when we paid our bill which included only **** Mary’s and pints. Will not be returning

the st. john’s tavern is a top pub, perhaps a tad to top market for my personal taste, just a few minutes walk from the railway station archway. they are happy to serve only drinks, but this is really the kind of venue they would go for a high quality meal instead of just a drink. and eating is very good, with an interesting and varied menu. the service was fast and efficient, although the location at the time of our visit was quite quiet. the most important courses were excellent, but the star of the show must be her sticky date pudding with ice cream that was really amazing. there were three ales to offer, including the excellent locally brewed five points xpa.
