"I have eaten at this restaurant before and had no complaints about the soup. However, during my recent visit, I was disappointed. I sat next to a couple who were not happy with their sandwiches as they were dry and lacked butter. They also mentioned that there was no salad cream available, which was surprising as there is likely a supermarket nearby. One major concern for me was that the restaurant allows dogs, which is fine, but the staff should not be touching them. I witnessed a server petting a dog and not washing her hands before handling customers' food. This is not hygienic and the owners should address this issue. I am unlikely to return as I prefer to eat in a clean and sanitary environment."

I entered this please, signed in and sat down at a little tiny window ledge table so I didn’t take up a table for four. There was an elderly couple at one table and an elderly gent at the other and then only me. I...

My partner and I stopped at The Beachcomber during a dog walk on a miserably wet Sunday. Firstly let me say how nice it is to find such a nice dog-friendly place to get a coffee and a bite to eat. We were greeted warmly,... View menu

The ladies toilet could have done with a clean. More should be made of the fabulous outside area. We had to actually ask to sit there and staff had to reassemble the chairs, wipe down the tables and apologise for the slippy decking.

Found this wee gem when we were out walking our pup. We walked along Helensburgh seafront to Kidston Park on a rainy Sunday morning. What a great find at the end. Such friendly staff. Very dog friendly with a doggie Menu too. We ordered breakfast,...

What an amazing location, the views are beautiful and the food was lovely and reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the restaurant was absolutely freezing, we had to keep out coats on. Service was slow and despite asking for vinegar, it never came. The toilets were disgusting, I've... View menu

If you are looking for a lovely place for food, coffee etc then this is the best wee place in Helensburgh, the food is always fresh and tasty, the service is fab. If the sun is shining u can sit outside looking over the water and kids play park. Oh and the prices are really reasonable too. Well worth a visit

We arrived at 3:30 pm on a beautiful sunny day and were disappointed by the view from the deck. We felt unwelcome as we were told that only coffee and cake were available. The service was reluctant and we were treated poorly as others arrived after us. It would have been better to be told that the restaurant was closed. It's a shame as the setting is lovely, but we won't be returning. There are plenty of other places in Helensburgh where we have always received good service.

"On our last day here, killing time before the ferry, decided to try luncheon here. No expectations either way. And we were TOTALLY wowed it was just excellent. Trying not to put too many superlatives in this review, but it was really, really ace. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the harbour where you could see dog walkers, children in wellies, crabbing, and little boats coming and going. Classic Islay. Then I have to mention the food. Jeez, it was top notch, and huuuuuuuge portions. I don’t think we’ve ever had four such consistently generous and fulfilling portions before. We had the scallops (massive, juicy, plentiful , the Crofter’s Platter, which was cheeses, hams, sausage rolls, salad, bread, chutneys; the soup massive bowl, loadsa crispy sourdough bread, and the fish and chips which was so big it draped over the plate! All delicious. Our guy, Andrew, was superb, so attentive and smiley and always bringing us more things, spoons, drinks, more bread, spoons, he was great. And we had a lovely chat with the very friendly and nice proprietor. She was wonderful. Really seemed to care about the place and her team. She told us all about the hotel and stuff it was really cool. We will most certainly come back here next time. You can’t necessarily get the best table every time, but we won’t mind if we don’t! : Oh, also, lovely clean loos!"

"We booked this restaurant after reading the reviews while touring Scotland what a disappointment. When we arrived we were shown to a table straight behind the door and as it kept opening and shutting it blew a massive amount of cold air in. As both parents and staff allowed 2 young children to go in and out every few minutes it got a bit much. We were given the menu and told specials were on the board. No description or recommendation. Also they did not say the board also goes over the top of the fish on didplay. I had crab claws to start the mayonnaise was lovely and what I could get out of the claws was nice but I was given no instruments to get into the claws and they were not broken enough for them to just pull out. I ordered the turbut for main as did my husband it was a small fillet with the skin correctly removed but it was loaded with garlic butter sauce you couldn't taste the fish for the garlic. Also which was worse I don't know what they did to the top of it but it was yellow and like thin rubber. We had to peel it off it was not good. I didn't complain at the time because I am not used to having a fillet of turbut. When I have had it before my husband and I have shared a turbut presented whole at the table. I have only written this today after speaking to some friends who said i should put something on because there had to be something wrong for the top of the fish to be yellow and leathery. You might guess but I won't be going back."
