"We visited this pub as part of our day out on the Wye. I was greeted by a really friendly young man behind the bar however that was where the good hospitality ended! We sat outside and would have loved to have ordered some food but we only had a short amount of time there. We ordered our drinks and sat outside. The landlady was extremely rude and hostile, she shouted …. yes literally shouted at us for taking a bite out of our packed sandwich. In hindsight perhaps we should have waited but we had just spent £10 on 2 drinks! She could have come over and kindly spoke to us but instead shouting at us in front of all the other customers Manners cost nothing! We watched her take a stick delivery and it is clear that she has little customer service and her very hostile attitude is “ My pub is busy and I don’t need to try and be warm and welcoming!” Shame as we won’t visit again."

Six of us called here for lunch after walking from Monmouth. Cosy little pub, welcoming hosts and really enjoyable food. Would definitely call back if in the area again.

Great pub with a warm welcome. Lovely pub food and a great atmosphere. Better to park in Redbrook pay and display and cross the victorian bridge as very little parking on the Penallt sideThank you

Super position next to the river Wye. Beautiful garden and seating. Visited on a sunny midweek lunchtime Smashing Kingstone Beer brewed locally. Both of us had (different) wraps which arrived within 10 minutes and were really good. Lovely friendly service too. We will return

True, genuine hospitality. It’s cosy and friendly with good beer and the occasional quiz for entertainment. And curry night! Here in September it’s all quieter and probably very different to the summer but a must do for a really characterful pub. You’ll end up chatting all night! View menu

A short walk from the village of Redbrook where we parked the car. We accessed from over the bridge. A busy place by the side of the river Wye. There is plenty of outdoor seating by the river or on the terraced gardens. Helpful and cheerful staff and pleasant to relax with a drink. Most guests were eating as well The inside was like stepping back in time. There are community events like regular quizzes.

The service was friendly and the food reasonably priced but it was a dirty place. It obviously had not been cleaned for a long time. The windows were especially filthy. On the wall, a food hygiene rating of 3 (out of 5) was displayed. I’d say that was generous. My food had a hair in it so they didn’t charge for that meal. Came away feeling slightly sick. The location is nice, especially for walks along the river and through the woods.

A waterfall in the terraced garden, and the quaintest bar area make this a very nice location for a pub lunch next to the River Wye. Unfortunately we waited 1.5 hours on a Thursday lunch-time for our very mediocre food. Sorry, it might suit some people, but Tesco tiger bread and Tesco frozen chips sodden with fat were not really for me. The absolutely lovely young lady behind the bar tried to make amends for the wait with a free round of drinks, so thank you for that. View menu

We have been to the Boat on a few occasions (we live not too far away) and have always enjoyed our time there. It is a beautiful location, as everyone says. We have had two good lunches there recently, tasty and a decent amount. Ewan the barman and Debbie the landlady could not have been nicer and more welcoming. Ewan is a definite asset to any hospitality venue. Concerning the negative reviews about food, I think all pubs have off days as far as food is concerned sometimes it's bad luck that the food you ordered wasn't great whilst everyone else enjoyed theirs.

Love this little inn, been coming here for years and it always feels like you're stepping back in time into what a traditional pub should be like. Cozy and friendly on the inside, and with spectacular views from the outside. Simple but delicious food I had the platter (a kind of Ploughman's Lunch), the other half had a delicious steak baguette and little one had the kid's fish fingers. Everything freshly prepared. Sitting on a bench in the garden, overlooking the old railway bridge and the tranquil waters of the Wye, on an unseasonably sunny Sunday lunchtime it's about as good as it gets. The beer is always fantastic, too.
