"my wife and I spent two nights here earlier this week and from the arrival to go, we were very well looked after. to stay in rooms that were very welcoming, everything was on the ground at both nights and at the sight of the evening...menu, we decided that we booked a longer break. this, together with the specials board, did not give us a simple decision. both decided to begin garlic mushrooms, my wife chose ribeye with diane sauce and I decided to stripe bark in dijon senf and mushroom sauce with rice, both dishes were error-free and tasty. the next night we ordered both prawn cocktails, with incredibly large portion garnels. we both also ordered porkchops with blue cheese sauce, without doubt, some of the best pigs we've ever tasted! no room for a pudding. the breakfast at both days was just as pleasant. gail who took care of us, and the girl in the kitchen deserves a special mention, many thanks."

Sadly we were very disappointed in the quality of the food we had. I had the pork belly for starter which was very tasteless. I had the fish crumble for my main which again was very tasteless my husband had the pork which was...just a giant slab of pork on his plate.. again tasteless . The chips were nice though

Consistently good food, we met friends for a birthday celebration and, as ever, were not disappointed. Friendly service, great views if you are lucky enough to visit on a sunny day. Outside or inside the staff are welcoming and attentive. Lots of choice for everyone.. but being a fish lover their Haddock and Prawn Crumble is the best!

We visited for lunch on a grey Thursday, and were warmly welcomed. We sat in the garden, listening to the birds and enjoying the views. The ducks in the next field, and a visiting stoat were entertaining! I had the most delicious steak pie ..the meat melted in my mouth, and there was plenty of it. My husband had the pork, which he said was also delicious. The service was prompt and really good even though we were outside the waitresses still checked we had everything we needed. We will definitely be going back again.

We stayed here for one night arriving at lunchtime after a long journey. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our room which was lovely . We popped down to the bar for lunch and a pint which was really nice and reasonably priced ....As we didnt intend to drive anymore that day we asked about local walks and we were delighted to hear there was a footpath behind the pub winding gently up through the dales with stunning views of the whole of Swaledale and lots of sheep ! The pub is in a quaint little hamlet which was very peaceful while we were there. We had our evening meal in the restaurant which we enjoyed very much and ended the night having a few drinks with the hosts and staff back in the...

"We had booked with booking.com . On arrival we were told that we didn't get breakfast included and that it would be £15 a head. We accepted this although thought was pretty steep for breakfast in a pub.The first morning we were given a menu clearly stating that breakfasts were included with all accommodation. I ordered poached eggs with smoked salmon and the other two ordered a full English breakfast which included homemade black pudding. The breakfasts arrived ,one of my poached eggs was runny, the other hard. The English breakfasts had no black pudding on the plates and when queried we were told that the deliveries hadn't arrived. Doesn't homemade imply made on or near the premises and as the owner states he is a butcher by trade I would expect he had made the black pudding. No alternatives were offered and presentation was distinctly lacking , with the baked beans poured over the other items. The next day I risked the full breakfast with black pudding which was lovely. But again the others had badly cooked poached eggs. We were offered no fruit juice, cereal or even toast and marmalade. On leaving we discovered the pub was unmanned , despite poor mobile signal. The owner turned up after 15 minutes. The bill was handed over, charging us for seven breakfasts when we had six, it was adjusted after he asked if one of us had had two breakfast one day? He served and cooked them so should know the answer to that. We were also then overcharged for nine coffee when three coffees and two teas had been ordered. Having had a family B and small hotel in York I advised him that standards were not what I was used to. I spoke to someone who had also visited recently and she stated a member of staff had charged them £15 per head for their similar breakfast where we were charged the menu price. Exceptionally poor menu, inaccurate advise saying breakfast included then charging us and probably the worst breakfast I have eaten in similar accommodation."
