"My partner and I were on holiday here in Colonsay and as there are only two places to eat out on the island, we wanted check out the pantry. We arrived at 2.20pm and were given a table outside that was disinfected. We sat and looked at the menu and waited for our order to be taken. Over 20 minutes has passed, nobody had come to the table to take our order. So being patient, I thought I’d order using the app suggested, Hopt. I placed our order and was told by the app it would be ready by 2.50pm. We waited, and waited whilst other people were being served, new customers arrived, were being served, had eaten and even then left before we saw our meal. My partner had to go inside to enquire as to where our order was, to which the reply was ‘that it had been done for a while’ and something about running out of paper. Out came two cold toasties, a limp and lifeless salad with a pot filled with scraps of potatoes meant to be chips. To top it off, a chocolate milkshake which was out of a carton and a rather mumbled and poor apology.A very expensive lunch, and an incredibly disappointing and annoying experience added to our holiday."

I’ve visited The Pantry 4 times over the last 5 years and always had lovely food and friendly service. A great place to eat on this small island. Hard working family business. Varied food offered with theme nights.

Had lunch twice here. Awfy nice folk, nice place, nice. Dont really see what the awards can be for though. Four staff on duty, four people dining outside but took an age and was then OK, no more. Pie was hard as a brick! However,...

We booked for seafood night (they also do steak nights) and shared a generous platter for two at a very reasonable price. The Pantry has the ambience of a café rather than a restaurant but the food and the service make it stand out. Nice... View menu

Visited as a large group, had pre-booked and ordered in advance. The group ordered a number of items off the menu, all of which were delicious and it all came out in a timely manner. One of our group accidentally knocked over their drink just...

A cafe rather than a restaurant but offering some good food nevertheless. The surroundings are quite basic, the service is adequate and the food is good, especially on themed nights. Fish night is very popular so would advise booking. House wines are recommended. View menu

We stayed on the island for one night, and came here for breakfast. It has a really good menu choice, including vegetarian and some vegan options. The food was great, and the staff were just lovely. We'll definitely be back on the island, and head for this place.

We visited Colonsay for a week very soon after cafes and restaurants opened and agree totally with the previous review from The Boatman. We booked evening meals for 3 nights and we weren't disappointed. The food is locally sourced and very tasty. Gavin couldn't have done more to make us welcome and make our evenings so enjoyable, despite one night when windy and wet weather did not alter their excellent service. Thank you so much. We have booked for next year and can't wait to return to the pantry.

"On our last day here, killing time before the ferry, decided to try luncheon here. No expectations either way. And we were TOTALLY wowed it was just excellent. Trying not to put too many superlatives in this review, but it was really, really ace. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the harbour where you could see dog walkers, children in wellies, crabbing, and little boats coming and going. Classic Islay. Then I have to mention the food. Jeez, it was top notch, and huuuuuuuge portions. I don’t think we’ve ever had four such consistently generous and fulfilling portions before. We had the scallops (massive, juicy, plentiful , the Crofter’s Platter, which was cheeses, hams, sausage rolls, salad, bread, chutneys; the soup massive bowl, loadsa crispy sourdough bread, and the fish and chips which was so big it draped over the plate! All delicious. Our guy, Andrew, was superb, so attentive and smiley and always bringing us more things, spoons, drinks, more bread, spoons, he was great. And we had a lovely chat with the very friendly and nice proprietor. She was wonderful. Really seemed to care about the place and her team. She told us all about the hotel and stuff it was really cool. We will most certainly come back here next time. You can’t necessarily get the best table every time, but we won’t mind if we don’t! : Oh, also, lovely clean loos!"

"We booked this restaurant after reading the reviews while touring Scotland what a disappointment. When we arrived we were shown to a table straight behind the door and as it kept opening and shutting it blew a massive amount of cold air in. As both parents and staff allowed 2 young children to go in and out every few minutes it got a bit much. We were given the menu and told specials were on the board. No description or recommendation. Also they did not say the board also goes over the top of the fish on didplay. I had crab claws to start the mayonnaise was lovely and what I could get out of the claws was nice but I was given no instruments to get into the claws and they were not broken enough for them to just pull out. I ordered the turbut for main as did my husband it was a small fillet with the skin correctly removed but it was loaded with garlic butter sauce you couldn't taste the fish for the garlic. Also which was worse I don't know what they did to the top of it but it was yellow and like thin rubber. We had to peel it off it was not good. I didn't complain at the time because I am not used to having a fillet of turbut. When I have had it before my husband and I have shared a turbut presented whole at the table. I have only written this today after speaking to some friends who said i should put something on because there had to be something wrong for the top of the fish to be yellow and leathery. You might guess but I won't be going back."
