"I have been going for years and I don’t know if it was an off day or if there is a new chef but the food quality is not what it once was. The prices are definitely significantly higher which I don’t mind if it’s consistent and good quality but the prawn cocktail starter was 12 and roast mains almost 20 quid. The staff were very disinterested upstairs serving on and one bauked when asked what the veggies were in the veggie or vegan curry. Seemed unhappy she needed to consult the kitchen. One of us left a whole roast dinner and the question was ‘do you want a box’ not a question about the food being ok etc….. the gravy and chicken were both less tasty, the fish portion tiny for the cost and the curry less flavoursome than previous ones. The service was non- descript and almost rude. This is a shame as really like Mark, have always had good food and it’s been a reasonable venue cost wise. It’s a real shame."

Absolutely fantastic food and service from a very friendly and efficient team. Nicest food we have had in a long time , scallops , belly pork, prawn cocktail, sea bass and veggie curry all first class, and service really excellent. Thank you xx

Had the Vietnamese Beef, wife had steak. Have to say my beef was perfectly spiced, absolutely delicious. My wife’s steak was lovely but after tasting mine she said we’ll have to go back so she could order it. Finished with forest gateau Elton mess. Staff super friendly, pub nicely decorated. Highly recommended

This is our fourth visit to The Earl, and each time I am absolutely blown away by the quality of the food. Without a doubt, my favorite restaurant in Newcastle. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for you to visit The Earl. 10/10 once again. We have returned multiple times, even bringing work clients with us, and every visit has been fantastic. The staff is attentive, the atmosphere is warm and friendly, and the food is consistently excellent. We are huge fans of this restaurant.

"The place seems unprofessionally run. The staff all look like they could do with a bath. No overalls are worn and their clothes are all of the type that many would wear to lounge around the house in . Several have longer hair and beards but don’t wear any kitchen p.p.e. The decor is shabby and I wondered what kind of hygiene rating they would have. Although not busy, the staff seemed to be disorganised, falling over eachother and lacking in training. They seemed to handle the food in an inexperienced, clumsy fashion. The only tool I saw being used was a pizza peel for taking the pizza in and out of the oven. On all other occasions the food was handled. I didn’t notice any hand washing or alcohol gel in evidence. The menu is quite limited and uninspiring. 2 of the 6 pizza choices include chicken which Italians would argue is definite no no! All pizzas are reheated to order which eliminates the possibility of customisation. I don’t believe the restaurant would stand out in many European countries, as pizza in general is of a much higher standard than that in the UK. In spite of the above, The basic pizza is excellent in taste (even though it is all re-heated). And for this reason it is worth a visit. Compared to other uk pizza restaurants which are typically serving absolute garbage, the food is way out in front. If you can tolerate the negatives I’m sure you won’t be disappointed with the pizza. However with a bit of effort, this place could be transformed into something truly amazing."
