"Oh, now we’re talking. Head and shoulders above anywhere else around Lothian Road and no discredit to the competition the Hanging Bat is a beer cafe (I’d just say a very distinguished pub, in truth) with 20 cask and keg taps and hundreds of bottled beers backing them up. The owners have created a dim and trendily homely space on two levels with a long bar along the left as you come in. Go on a Friday or Saturday night and you’ll see the following they’ve established a following enjoying quality beers constantly on rotation, a relaxed atmosphere, and an unpretentious attitude toward good service. Probably the best place for beer in Edinburgh, it is easy to understand why it's packed most of the time. The Hanging Bat has a great atmosphere and a fantastic selection of beers... and cider (which I always favour, not being a beer fan myself). If you want to be able to grab a table, go there early.

I’m from the Midwest, where we have a flourishing craft beer scene. This was the first establishment in the UK where I could get a proper taste of the craft beer scene across the pond. Also, the music they play is incredible, one of the songs I noticed over the stereo was Parabola by TOOL. Need I say more?

Good selection of rotational beers large selection of gin. This is definitely a go-to for me in this part of town and I usually bring any out of town visitors who are beer-heads. Can get really busy so be prepared to wait on a Friday evening etc. The food is a bit hit and miss but suffices for posh pub grub.

The best place for beer in Edinburgh (closely followed by Brewdog) is The Hanging Bat on Lothian Road. Beers are dispensed from bat shaped taps, they brew their own beer on site and bring in fantastic brews from all over, and the food isn't half bad either. Prices are a little steep but no more than any other craft beer hangout. And if you get bored, there's always Cloisters, Brauhaus, Red Squirrel and more nearby. Highly recommended.

A great little haunt for a beer fanatic, the choice of beers is exemplary and you can spend a few hours just on the beer alone. But then there is the food, which is better than standard pub grub, it is very well crafted. They are also generous with their portions, something which weights heavily in their favour. The personal favourite of mine is the Alsatian Hot Dog, the succulent meat is to die for. The pulled pork burger and the stew are also up there. It is a great place to go to meet friends, it has everything good beer, good food and knowledgable staff.

I really like the hanging asked. it's a real beer pub without "old man style '. although I'm not a big bearder, I love that they can taste 1/3 pints of different laymen and beer (or smaller quantities to see how art of beer they like. the staff are very friendly and really knowledgeable about the animals. there is also a large selection of bottled beer and obstbier. the best is that if they are no longer lust on beer they have a huge selection of spirits, namely gin and are happy to recommend many options to taste. Moreover, eating is great, hot dogs (the right kind, pulled pork (love,! mac and cheese and big salat and also sides. a really good alcohol
