"We stayed here for one night as my Husband and Daughter were going to the Blondie Gig at the Open Air Theatre. When we arrived we were warmly welcomed and could go straight to our room, it was about 12:30 ish, so we were lucky. The room was actually like a little suite with 2 separate bedrooms, both were spacious, the bathroom is very small, but overall the rooms had everything we needed and were spotlessly clean, and the colour scheme is neutral, if not a little dated. The best thing was the view, as the hotel is higher up on the Esplanade we had an amazing view of the whole South Bay, and we loved looking out at it through the tall windows… Outside the the hotel is in a lovely area and it felt safe to walk around as so many people were sat admiring the view on the many benches, it’s very close to the Spa, and some lovely gardens, it is up a hill, so possibly if you have mobility issues it could be a problem, but there is the Furnicular further along near the main beach, and a lift (I think) near the Spa, so as long as you know where they are, it makes it easier. We had a drink in the hotel garden, it again has a lovely view and the prices were very reasonable. In the evening whilst I was on my own, I sat in the hotel bar watching my iPad, and had a drink, the bar was very busy as it was quiz night, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and it was a really good atmosphere, during the quiz break they served curry and pizzas, a really nice touch, I had a good night. The breakfast the following morning was served in the ground floor breakfast room, again the staff were very friendly, the breakfast was cooked to order, and there was a choice of tea, coffee, juices, cereals, toast, yoghurt and a fresh fruit salad (with real chopped fruit) which was very nice! Overall we had the perfect stay, don’t let the thought that the rooms seem dated put you off, this hotel is spotless, the staff are friendly, the service is good, it’s in a perfect location that’s all that matters, also the hotel is in the process of being renovated, so the rooms will improve, we would definitely return…"

It was awful the boss threatening people and saw him spit in someone’s food. He threatens staff and told me to go away when asking if they had something so rude.

Friday,Saturday and Sunday were very busy so we couldn’t get a table. We ate there 3 or 4 times and the food was reasonably priced and tasty. A bit rough around the edges but the locals seemed friendly enough as was the staff.

4 of us had the Sunday carvery which was very nice indeed, We had all the different meats turkey, pork, beef between us and they were all tender and generous portions too. A real find on the Esplanade with friendly staff and reasonable prices. We'll definitely be back.

Thus is a friendly local pub very near The Crown Spa Hotel. There is a very good selection of real ales as well as every other drink imaginable. Some tables were dining and the food looked good. So, a good experience. I do think the toilets are in need of upgrading, maybe management have it on their list to do. View menu

The staff were very pleasant, shame about the food and the hygiene. Went here recently for a carvery. The food was really dry and had clearly been out and under the servery lights for a long time. Everywhere you looked, everything was dated and quite soiled, from the stair carpet and handrail to the table tops.

This is the second time we have been for a lunch and the first time was lovely. This time not so good. The steak pie was burnt to a frazzle. They said it was the glaze but it was black inside as well. Once the pastry was off the meat inside was lovely. The fries and peas were also fine. Just a shame they served it as it was.

I hadn 't ate or drank in the Highlander for quite some so when a friend was staying nearby we arranged to meet up in there and from the time we arrived we received good old fashioned frendliness and great service, a great choice of ales and belly busting pub grub We chose steak pie and Lincolshire sausages both of which were superb. My thanks to all there, I 'll Be Back ! View menu

Probably a good place to go if you just want a drink but staff were rushed off there feet. We asked before we ordered if there was anything NOT on the menu. We ordered the chicken with peppercorn sauce, on the specials board) for my 90 year old Dad, it came without sauce they had run out) with a few carrots and burnt chips. The gammon steak was a thin piece of ham , not the 10 oz advertised, and the veg lasagne with salad and garlic bread came with 2 soggy pieces of garlic bread only. No one came to ask if the food was OK, and when I said something to the person clearing the glasses, who didn't work there apparently) salad arrived when I had finished. I did get one meal refunded, thank you f...

My wife and I, after spending a whole day walking around the beach, decided to eat at the Highlander after finding several of the restaurants were closed. We were very hungry, we found the staff very pleasant. I ordered a surf and turf and my wife ordered a fish pie. My wife stipulated that my steak needed to be rare. Oh dear! Even before it arrived to the table, there was indications that my steak looked like a piece of leather! It was definitely not rare but cremated. There was no blood left in it at all. It is possible that the Whitby vampires came and sucked all the blood out first! Meanwhile on the plate, were some very hard prawns that could’ve been used for a game of conkers! After sa...
