"we had heard so much about this place and wanted to try to eat as we live afair distance away, we thought we would try a midday instead of an evening, especially how the evenings are moving. the pub esbereich is wonderful, great tables, great decor very pleasant. the personal again very polite and pleasant. but we were very dissapointed with the lunch menu. if they are a carnivore (not too sharp on fish, unless I can be his fresh not frozen safe) was the only zhouice steak, quite expensive for a midday time and not very different or sausage and maic. nothing else. I had the sausages and although good were just ok, they didn't seem like big fat thirsty, but run the mill sort. the fish was a fish plate, fishgiujons or salmon. there were a few vegetable cheese dishes, but we fought to find a balanced meal in a pub where so many positive things were said. Maybe it's just not a special lunch place. unless the lunch menu reflects more choice, can be a cake, swarms or even the famous fish cake that we will not return. I'm sorry."

Won't be going back here , bad service as waitress reaches over your plated food and only ONE VEGGIE option at VERY HIGH price and not much of it , I did ask if there were veggie options before taking my family in to eat and was assured there were VEGGIE OPTIONS on the menu , by the LANDLORD Joe !!!! well I think you need to look at your menu Joe!!!

We ate in here as couples. The restaurant was quiet but felt cosy and warm with a roaring log open fire. Staff were friendly and attentive. No starters but different mains . were excellent but the sirloin steak a big slice...of meat was tough and chewy and a lot was left on the plate. All portions were of a good size and piping hot . of us had sweets which were a real treat, sticky toffee pudding and homemade bramble crumble a delight. All in all a very good meal but unfortunately have to take a star off for the steak.

Was really looking forward to Sunday lunch here, and all the whole found it just about average. Starters, scallops and fish platter. Fish platter was the better of the no cooking required just selection of smoked fish and fruit. Scallops small and perhaps...frozen as didn’t taste fresh. Mains, beefs was probs the pick of the choice on our table, the roast potatoes were more like boiled in appearance. Mixed vegetables, York puds and gravy ok. Dessert- pick of the lot for us was the crumble which was defo home cooked, not sure about the others. Overall just about average
