"Had a really average Sunday roast today. My mum 's home raost so much more flavoursome, I am reminded why I rarely risk anyone else 's. Seriously you cannot charge £18 for ropey roast potatoes (zero crisp, more like the frozen variety, maybe they were!! , tasteless veg apart from the red cabbage which was the most flavoursome thing on the plate and an average tasting, nearly over cooked, Supreme of Chicken drop the supreme, it 's irrelevant and there is nothing supreme about it. How about a richer gravy, how about some lovely herby stuffing, some cauliflower cheese? My mum had lamb, she said it was a bit tough. And our friend agreed with the general assessment apart from the sticky toffee pudding which she really enjoyed. Yay. Dessert the chocolate mouse and accompaniments way over sweet and regrettable now, some hours later. And sorry to be on such a downer but service was mediocre and robotic too. Zero finesse. Talk to me, look me in the eye when you speak to me, don 't turn and walk away at the same time as saying, 'have a good afternoon '. It means nothing. One of the party, said, oh they 're young. They were, very, but if they are keen and trained properly it doesn 't matter how old they are. And noone said goodbye on the way out when we walked by. Two big parties used the next door table twice during our time there and it was very hard to hear our own conversations, made harder for older folk, even with their hearing aids! Times are tough for everyone, it 's pricey to go out so it needs to be quality all round if I 'm going back. That said the place was busy so maybe we just expect a higher standard than some. I have worked in the business, have chefs in my family so I am not speaking without experience."

The lunch and Christmas dinner at this restaurant were amazing. The atmosphere was lovely, the staff were very nice and helpful, and our plates were always empty at each course. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them, and they even catered for gluten-free and dairy-free options. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant.

The Montagu Arms catered our 60th birthday celebration lunch for 70 people at the adjacent Village Hall. We cannot rate or recommend it too highly Ian was a dream to liaise with (absolutely nothing was too much trouble), the food was superb tasty, hot, efficient and fuss free. Dietary requirements were hassle free and our guests were without exception enormously complimentary. Thanks to The Monty, our event was a huge success. Thank you! View menu

A group of 6 of us made a reservation for New Year's Eve. For £35 per person, we enjoyed a 3-course meal, watched fireworks at midnight, and danced at a disco until 2am. The food was outstanding, with a straightforward menu that included a sharing board to start, a choice of beef or salmon for the main course, and a trio of desserts. We were completely satisfied with both the food and the service. It was a fantastic evening, thanks to all the staff involved.

We had an great Sunday lunch at the Monty yesterday. The food was excellent and served hot we had roast lamb, roast beef and the nut roast all delicious. There was a real buzz as the pub was full I'd recommend booking ahead to avoid disappointment. The pub has loads of parking space and the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. We had three dogs with us which was no problem in the cellar bar. What a great place to meet grandparents on their way past Oundle to a holiday destination. Thank you to the team for a great experience!

We had two excellent sirloin steaks today and were very impressed. Decided to call in here for lunch and so pleased we did. The food was superb and they have a good range of beers and wines. There was a vibrant and friendly vibe and it was busy when we arrived. This is a pub but service was actually better than we had experienced at a hotel in Uppingham on the previous Sunday! We could see how hard the staff were working and they were all brilliant. We have been before but always as larger walking groups but we shall return again very soon very impressed! View menu

It was my wife’s birthday and we wanted to try somewhere new and the Monty was recommended. We were not disappointed. It was a Tuesday lunch and there were quite a few people dining in the bar creating a nice atmosphere and we managed to get a table right next to a lovely log fire. The menu is varied supplemented by a specials board. My wife chose shoulder of pork and I had the lamb. Both were served quickly, hot and a generous portion and were excellent. Puddings followed of course. Prices on par. To cut it short, lovely food, service and surroundings, will definitely visit again.

This was our first visit, and it was based on a review I had seen sometime in the past (can’t remember where or when , but it turned out to be accurate, as we really enjoyed it. It’s a lovely pub in a great village setting with a large car park, big outdoor areas and lots of rooms inside with some nice cosy tables etc. – we ate in the bar area. The staff were excellent, really friendly and helpful and the food was very good too and very well priced at £16 for two courses and £20 for three courses (none of the dishes were individually priced, but I did order aside portion of chips! – that may just be a mid week price, I’m not sure. The Barnwell Bitter beer was absolutely excellent – we will r...

"this was my birthday contract with the children (in their 40's go to lunch big situation, but the management is missing in action. we smiled at the typos. the menu, but it turned out to be a symptom of deficiency...view to detail. very friendly (but quite inexperienced waiting staff. great location and a very warm welcome. water came pretty fast. the starters were pretty good (3 ham hock croquettes and a panko chicken. the mains were another thing. two fish and chips very nice, good portions and well presented. burger was terrible. here is the menu description 6oz coarsely ground beef burger, candied speck, soft bevel, cheddar cheese, salattomate . the reality was a burger in a bungalow with a piece soggy salat and maybe some cheese. no speck, no tomats, no wobble so £18 for an average qualitysburger and they have to pay extra for riders! To conclude that there was at least 5 10 minutes after the other net, so we sat just wait and had to ask the waitress when it came. description • crispy confit ente bein, herby buttermilk waffel, fried due egg with maple senf dressing the reality that was inspected and watery it looked out and tasted as if it were boiled to death. the herby buttermilk waffel was chewing and certainly in a blind taste test I would swear that there is no more crumble in. to cover, it was cold. the sniffing was nicely spread in the waffles that gave them a taste. we also ordered the knochenmark from the menu. No one had said to the poor waitress that they should have been ordered to tell the diners what was going on and no. the menu. when we complained, the manager had not even come the courtesy and see us they left the poor junior waiterin to explain that the speck had not come with the delivery to the last day (one ever heard that he jumps out of the super market to buy some? and there was no excuse for the missing tomats, very badly sorry for us, so on. desserts the brownie was very nice, but the eton mess was a catastrophe. it came in a small delicate glass. in the ground a buckling of whipped cream with some slabs of stone hard meringue and some earthy with stems overfilled with some earthberry syrup. after bending the spoon. we decided to solve it by hand. I was afraid that I would break a tooth on the notched position that really needed to be served with a hammer. the only way to eat the earthy was to pick them up from the body, to bite and to eat to which time our hands were covered in sauce. on the plus side, they drew the price of the burger and Eton fair and 25% of the duck, as we had 3 glasses of wine and a koks, the bill was still over £120 without drinking money. to say that by my choice of restaurants, I would be embarrassing a rough understatement."
