"This is my absolute favourite place. I have to say I’ve been turned away more times than I’ve got in but that just makes me want it more! It’s very small but charming, warm cosy. Of course I should ring ahead to book but...my phone never has a signal so I just turn up. They do a particular raspberry cake whose name I can’t remember but it is gorgeous, moist flavoursome but not too sweet. Even my husband was impressed cute little cafes are his cup of tea really cos he’s a big guy. I sincerely hope they can ride out the current awful situation look forward to tip toeing up your stairs to see if you’ve got a small table just for me."

For coffee and cake to go sit on a bench somewhere. Only open 10-1400. But that may just be the tea serving bit Great selection Little gem of a local place

Great stop once you've visited the fairy tale steps. Friendly service and lovely home made cakes. Nice to sit outside and hear the church bells. Banana bread and brownies were delicious

This was an excellent place. Cheesecakes with a life of cheese and chutney with coffee were served by the lovely host who made us feel very welcome and valued. We sat outside across from the church and watched the world go by. Highly recommended.

Family run and marvellous home cooked food. Menu differs daily and the cakes can be taken home. Only small place so booking is best, but not necessary. Ideal for walkers and bikers. Car parking a bit problematic, but the food makes it all worth the...effort of park and a little walk.

great little cafe, **** away in Beetham. Although it wouldn't have the same cozy feel, its a shame they couldn't get a bigger space as the area desires something where you can take all your family instead of just a few at...a time. But if you can get in, enjoy and if not worth the wait!

Last time we were here it was for a tasty takeaway soup to warm a chilly day's work in the church opposite. This time was more leisurely, with a delicious and prettily presented pea/mint soup and houmous/beetroot sandwich combination. The vegan options were produced with...no fuss and much charm. We were rather full after all that but it was all so relaxing that we followed it with one of those cakes that you know you ought to cut in half to save for later but somehow you just keep eating until it's gone. Returning soon. Thank you for the warm welcome and delightful food.

Yes I do eat out a lot especially cafés. I only give honest reviews sometimes too honest . Called in on the off chance the weather would stay clement . It's a café we have visited before with excellent food. Now offering takeaway. As usual...we must support them. This time roast beef sandwich and turkey and cranberry sandwich. Presented in takeaway box . Good fresh bread , very fresh salad with cous cous. Followed by( I know I shouldn't have delicious fruit strudel . Coffee and tea were very good. Luckily it stayed fine so we had a very pleasant lunch in the church yard watching the swallows . Highly recommended this café

"Staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. They were also very kind to our dog. We had drinks and food and though the drinks were good, the food was not. The words 'frozen ' and 'microwave ' were forefront in my mind throughout. The mash potato I had with my pie was face meltingly hot suggesting the microwave was used, and my wife 's battered fish was mushy and watery suggesting it was deep fried from frozen. The batter was also only about 1mm thick and was like wise mushy. The meat in my chunky steak pie was definatly chunky but was a little too firm (not tough, just not tender. Probably the wrong cut of meat rather than badly cooked). I then had the caramel apple pie as did another member of my party. While his was hot, mine was cold. I had mine with cream which when it arrived, had bubbles in and was luke warm. What I think happened was that mine was microwaved first and then drowned in cream and left to sit while the other was microwaved. This mean mine cooled in the cream while the cream warmed. It also meant that the pastry on the bottom went soggy, and from the rest of the pastry, it didn 't seem like it had much crisp to begin with. Now I know that times are hard and pubs like this can 't be expected to make everything from scratch, but there are 3 other pubs close by and unfortunately this one is doing nothing to stand out from the others, in terms of food anyway. Overall, a nice place for a quiet drink, but I 'll not be back for the food. The only saving grace was the price; £80 for 2 rounds of drinks (1 pint, 1 coke and 2 halves per round), 4 mains and 2 desserts...I suppose you get that you pay for though..."
