"This was the best meal I have ever eaten. Firstly Ben Wilkinson at the pass is quite a new restaurant and a lot of these reviews are not reflective of this as I believe the restaurant has changed a lot since Covid. It has recently won a Michelin star and the current menu is deserving of this. My wife and I had the 7 course tasting menu which was exquisite. The layout of the restaurant is also carefully thought out with glass surrounding an intimate setting so that you can watch the courses in the kitchen being prepared. Every course is completely unique and is delivered and explained to you by a different chef, who all rotate around the tables which I particularly liked. The food speaks for itself. I won't list every course but the standout was the beef cheek and celeriac. Absolutely divine. The snacks which come before the first course were also out of this world. We didn't opt for the wine pairing but enjoyed quite a few cocktails instead, all which were faultless. The only downside to this is how full we both felt at the end; a very nice problem to have. Having been to other Michelin star restaurants the Pass for me is the best so far, and the chilled out setting I actually prefer to something grander. Overall an exceptional experience that I couldn't recommend highly enough. Vegetarian options: I wouldn't recommend a tasting menu to any vegetarian as it's designed to incorporate a lot of different animal products into a piece of art"

Very tentative caring staff. They have a tasting menu for 95£ per person. Tristan is more my taste. The tasting menu has something interesting that I would never try out. It has a beautiful bar Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner

We had a great experience at the Pass and would definitely come again. I do not share the opinions of the negative reviews. The service was exceptionally friendly, the food special ans delicious, and watching the chef was great.

Avoid if youre vegetarian or have allergies. Been veggie for 20+ years and served crab! Also had to swat flies away from our table ! Ruined our meal and not acceptable for a 5 star venue. Such a shame as we had high expectations.. View menu

We visited the newly opened The Pass by Ben Wilkinson and it was fantastic! The staff were so attentive and the way the restaurant was set up was amazing, you can see directly into the kitchen and see the team make the food. It was such a lovely experience and the good was incredible. We were celebrating a babymoon as-well as our first year wedding anniversary and we’re already looking at coming back next year. Not one to be missed! Service: Dine in

What an absolutely fabulous dining experience. Each dish on the tasting menu was exquisite and delivered to our table by either Ben or one of his team, taking the time to talk us through the ingredients. We have eaten at several Michelin Star restaurants and would rate this restaurant amongst the best of those. We are already planning our next visit, excited to see how the dishes evolve as seasons change. We wish Ben, his wife (who was so attentive and engaging in front of house) and his team the success and accreditation they truly do deserve View menu

Shout out to the amazing service at The Pass at south lodge absolutely faultless and so friendly and welcoming. Food is v good but at this price point and with a michie the bar is set quite high. Dishes were tasty (turbot and beef particularly stood out), but I guess overall less inventive than other restaurants in this league. It’s solid, high end cooking for sure, but want a bit more wow factor to keep me coming back. Please also dim the lighting and make it a bit more cosier as can feel a bit bright and sterile especially as you’re all on high tables anyway. 14/20

The wine mark up is just unacceptable and adding service charge to it is insulting. I can't really fault the cooking or food but it just wasn't to my taste. It was all a bit rich and heavy for my palate. I rather lighter food with bolder flavours but that is subjective. The service was very good although I couldn't understand half of what the sommelier said. What really left a bad taste was charging £115 for a bottle of wine that retails online for less than £20. That's cynical and wrong, in my opinion. Then to add 13.5% service charge to that price adds insult. I am aware that the service charge is discretionary but in reality, very few people in this situation will challenge it. When alrea...

"My mother and I had been following the Masterchef Pro comp ' last year and were really keen to sample some of the winner, Tom Hamblet 's, food. We travelled a 4 hour round trip for the experience. We don 't eat at fine dining restaurants often but we are foodies. Firstly, the setting of the restaurant is very lavish and comfortable with warm low lighting. That said, the dinner experience was a little too dark for my mother so that 's something to think about if you struggle with eyesight and low lighting. The service was friendly, attentive and speedy/efficient. The food: I 'll start with the dessert because that was a real pleasure for us. We both loved the flavours of Tom 's end of series winning dessert so the meal ended on a high (we ordered the Olive Oil sponge with lemon curd). I recommend not ruining your palette with the overly sweet petit four that are placed in front of you following dessert unfortunately ours were more sugar flavoured than any other identifiable flavour. Our starters and mains were very VERY underwhelming. They arrived looking beautiful, neat and tidy but failed to deliver on taste. I had wanted the celeriac themed starter but the waiting staff told me the vegan/veggie starters and mains were created by their head chef and not Tom. That was disappointing as his 3 month residency was the reason we 'd visited the restaurant. We ended up both having the lobster starters after the waiting staff recommended it highly as either a starter or an additional dish to share. The claw meat was minimal and tough and the foam mousse took centre stage on the plate. Whilst the plate had lots of textures to it, we felt it was unbalanced and generally with no 'wow ' to it. We enjoyed the coffee and rye bread with butter and pollen/fennel that came prior to this thought. I ordered the Guinea Fowl as a main after the waiter described it as a gamey, dark and tender meat. I feel like a better description to someone that hasn 't had guinea fowl before would be 'it 's like a chicken breast with a different flavour '. This is what arrived in front of me and I actually found it was quite dry and not dark at all! I would never have ordered anything that resembled chicken breast anyway so I felt ill informed about my choice. I also thought the girolles were overwhelmingly tart. I didn 't enjoy my main. Mum 's Hogget was nice but average for her too. Last comment I 've never in my life paid £6.50 for less than 1.5ltrs mineral water beware! I don 't care how much money you have it 's water!!!"

"Service: 11/10 Starter: Calamari Duck Parfait - 10/10 Main Course 1: 50-Day Aged Fillet Mignon with Bordelaise Sauce (cooked *Blue*) - 100/10 Main Course 2: Fish and Chips - 9/10 Dessert: Hot Brownie - Over 9000! I want to extend my thanks to the front-of-house team for their warm welcome. Although we arrived a bit late, they were incredibly accommodating. Special thanks to Irvana (I hope I spelled that correctly) for providing excellent service! My steak experience took me on a nostalgic journey—like Anton Ego savoring his ratatouille in Gusto’s restaurant. It reminded me of a family meal in Holland during my childhood, where I had my first real steak. This may have even surpassed that memory! I was initially hesitant about dining at Miller and Carter since it's a chain restaurant, but if you're feeling the same way, let me assure you: don't be. While it may not be the cheapest option, it definitely deserves a smart-casual dress code that anyone who understands proper dining etiquette should respect. Curious, I browsed through other reviews, and I found it hard to believe anyone could leave a 1-star review without sounding like a “Karen.” It’s important to take reviews with a grain of salt—this is truly a fantastic restaurant! In summary, if you're a fan of steak, this place will take great care of you and provide excellent recommendations for how to enjoy your meal just the way you like it. Perfect!"
