"Upon arrival we were told they ‘don’t think’ we can dine as they were fully booked inside was empty. Sat down to wait for a taxi to leave with x2 toddlers to the left of the bar, a staff member approached my son saying where is your mummy and daddy when I was sat right there with in eye sight. The children were standing by the bar , and a staff member said abruptly said can the children not run around , which they were not running around. I approached a staff member and said that if i had known it was a not kid friendly pub we would not of come. The manager then come up to us very rudely with attitude and said she does not like the way her staff had been spoken to and it is a kid friendly pub and asked us if we were going to eat food which we already were told to we could not anyway. From the second we walked in we did not feel welcome and like we shouldn’t be there. Very very rude staff and incompetent at their jobs as they clearly can’t handle working under pressure."

This restaurant excelled in every category: food, service, and hospitality. They ensured that everything was perfect. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Thank you.

Plenty of parking at rear, outside space also. Staff lovely, food arrived hot and there was a lot of it! No complaints from our party, which is unusual. Well recommended.

I wrote a review of this restaurant 6 months ago, mentioning that it looked tired but had great food. Well, I revisited recently and was pleased to see that some areas have been updated with new carpets and reupholstered furniture. The food was still delicious, freshly cooked and homemade. I highly recommend it.

Visited today it was short notice to book after being let down, it was a family of 7 birthday celebration. Food was amazing and plenty of it. Staff very pleasant and polite. Ample parking. And a small play area for the little one to have a run around. All in all we would definitely recommend a well deserved 5 stars

We absolutely love this place. Quality home cooked food, well priced and really friendly staff. The chips are the best I have ever had! Good veggie selection too. It’s old fashioned inside just like a traditional pub, which suits the type of home cooked food they offer. Try it, you will not be disappointed! Would 100% recommend!

We visited this pub a few years ago and wrote it off as it was awful (dirty and thread-bear). However we’ve been back a few times over the past 2 months and have had really very good food there. We now have a puppy so sit in the bar or garden but the staff are really very nice and helpful and the food has been perfect every time. We took friends to eat there with us and they were also impressed with the quality. We have pretty high standards for food and this pub is high on our list in Stoke-on-Trent.

Me and girlfriend visit The Red House regularly which is why I have gone out of the way to leave a review. It is now officially our favourite pub restaurant, as every time we visit the food is consistently amazing. The food portions are always huge and reasonably priced. The staff are always very friendly and we find most of the time we can ring up and reserve a table 15 minutes before we arrive (we only live in Weston Coyney). I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Stoke for a break. I’ve even convinced my friends who live up near Manchester to come down for the food!

The previous review about the restaurant not being child-friendly is comical! We were in the dining room when this incident happened. There was a 40th birthday celebration going on and the family was seated in a section that was already set up for the buffet. The children were running around while the food was being brought out and the couple was on their phones. The staff did inquire about the whereabouts of the adults since they were obstructed by a wall. The woman then started yelling about it not being child-friendly. Meanwhile, there were more than 20 kids playing in the garden.

"Our room faced the front of the hotel, and while the village was quiet with only two pubs and a small corner store, it seemed to be a shortcut for heavy vehicles speeding downhill at night, with headlights constantly illuminating our room. We also found out that the hotel closes in the evening if it's not busy, and the front door may be locked as early as 10 PM, requiring a code for re-entry. The internet service was poor; even standing just outside the front door, I had no reception and couldn't call the emergency numbers posted there. It appears that the quality of the rooms varies significantly, with some having been upgraded while others are less desirable, including our own. When we questioned our bill because we didn't think the room was worth £140, we were told that since we had booked through Charming Escapes, we should take it up with them, as the hotel receives only a fraction of what we paid. This made us feel like second-class guests, especially since it seemed we were stuck in a low-quality room. The standard rate for a double room is £90, and if I were to rate our experience like on the TV show "Four in a Bed," I would say £50 a night would have been generous. Previous reviews also mentioned an issue with the door handle and the ability to lock the room, which had not been fixed. If you’re just looking for a place to dry off your hiking boots, this hotel might suffice, but I wouldn't recommend staying here again. It has a lot of potential, and thankfully, we had a wonderful evening at The Devonshire Arms just across the street—it felt like a whole different experience. It seems the staff at Charles Cotton have simply given up."
