"However the food was pleasant pub very disappointing. The hip 8 ounces of steak was flat and as we ask for size. Fried potatoes were frozen clearly before hand, not crispy and even more in fact. However, they told me they were handmade, clearly it is not. Blue cheese blue cheese venado burger contained very little. I can't say that this staff, however, I don't think it can take criticism. Too bad, since I think, for the price, it was bad quality food."

Good choice and value for money. Had both dinner and breakfast, well presented in a very relaxed atmosphere.

Food was lovely, all freshly cooked. Manager a bit stressed in her attitude, not sure why as we were very happy to wait.

This restaurant is a fantastic discovery. It's a wonderful place to visit. As soon as you step inside, you can feel the charming ambiance. It's a truly authentic local spot at the center of the village. We're grateful for our stay here and the food was excellent.

This is a genuine 'village local ' inasmuch as it appears to be independently owned and operated. There are ancient rusted-on locals propping up the bar which was entertaining. Great atmosphere, plenty of choice in food and drink. Happy to return, or should that read ... HOPE to return.

Twelve of us had a very good value roast dinner and divine desserts. The service was great. Local village pubs have such a hard time of it, with changes in the way we live , eat, drink and entertain ourselves nowadays. It's great to go to one that is getting it right. Will revisit as soon as possible.

After a 4 hour walk in the area we went for lunch at the Red Lion. We both had sandwiches; cheese and pickle, and ham and pickle. Both came with home made chips and salad. Absolutely delicious. The landlady was most pleasant and attentive which is always appreciated. The bar area is dog friendly. The bar area has a great ambiance. We will definitely be visiting this place again.

We visited The Red Lion twice while staying nearby. We both had gammon which was virtually as big as the plate and seemed never ending, and was lovely. We came back on the Sunday for the carvery which was absolutely delicious! All of the staff were lovely too. We wish we lived closer as we would be regulars! My husband was a big fan of the open fire and could have quite happily stayed there all day!!

We didn't expect much from a rurally pub as they have a captive audience, but we were pleasantly surprised. The landlady was very friendly and helpful and the food was wonderful. The salmon and chicken rilette incoming parfait were delicious. My partner enjoyed his food a lot, my lamb liver and bacon was a huge portion and perhaps a little overreacted, but the liver still delicious. We'd definitely come back if we stayed in the area.

"I know that cancellation policies are in place for a reason, for the 'no shows ' and for people who do not respect the 24 hour cancellation policy. I can only assume that this is the reason that this establishment has this in place. Sadly, on the morning of the booking, I had to rush my father to A and E. My husband rang to let the restaurant know as soon as we knew that we would not make it. This was because we cared and wanted them to be informed as soon as possible and provide them with the opportunity of securing another booking. My husband rang at his earliest opportunity which was about 9.30 am. We were aware that the restaurant does not open until 12 but we wanted to reach them as quickly as possible. The answering machine came on so my husband kept trying until he eventually got hold of someone. Once my father’s condition stabilised, I also emailed the restaurant to extend our sincere apology and to explain the situation. During the telephone conversation I am speechless not about the non-refundable deposit) but about how the restaurant responded. Even if the manager was not prepared to change our booking to another day, could she not have been more kind with her response? At least 'a sorry to hear about your father, but unfortunately... ' The whole telephone manner was rude, abrupt, and uncaring. I understand that business is business but please have a heart as well. This is why I am writing this review. We were not being rude or abrupt. This was about a family emergency and we were letting you know whilst in the midst of it all. This was a booking for two people, not a party of 10. Does the restaurant not operate a waiting list? Did they make every effort to find customers to replace our booking? Times are tough for many of us right now and a little bit of human kindness goes a long way whilst citing your well publicised terms and conditions."
