"We normally go to this pub for an amazing roast at lunchtime but unfortunately couldn't go at that time last Sunday so booked for 6pm. Couldn't believe what a different experience this was, we all ordered a different roast and to be fair the meat and most of the veg was lovely but the roast potatoes and parsnips were the worst I have ever had anywhere. Normally the potatoes are crispy and soft in the middle, these we struggled to get a knife through and I couldn't at all as so hard and thought they would give me indigestion. The cauliflower cheese usually comes in a separate bowl and I always look forward to that this time it was a mushy mess on the plate. No one came over to check we were happy with the meal till the end when it was too late. There was a lady at next table who had ordered pasta and it had much too much chilli to eat but again there was no one to tell. It just seemed that the staff weren't interested I could see them chatting away at the bar and some laying tables. Our dirty plates were left for ages on table. I don't understand why it should be so different we pay same money lunchtime as evening but its obviously not cooked fresh in evening just warmed up food. So so disappointing has put us off going back again. At the end we got offered free desserts but we would have preferred to have had a nice roast."

Long association with this lovely country pub. Food was very good. A little disappointed with the greeting and table service a tad distant but did not spoil our lunch

Today, I enjoyed lunch at this restaurant with two friends. The atmosphere was very welcoming, the staff were attentive, and we received excellent service. The food was also very tasty!

Really good experience, service, food everything excellent. Five of us opted for a Sunday roast and it exceeded all expectations. Only comments by family was noted it was a reduced menu (but reasons understood) and one dessert on menu not available. All in all we would highly recommend.

Met up with work colleagues for my retirement dinner just 6 of us, we had a round table in the alcove which was very suitable. My husband got a bit warm and the amazing landlady went off to get a fan which she found in the chefs flat, nothing to much trouble. Food excellent it may take a while but all freshly cooked, staff were very attentative checking we were all good. We have eaten several time here and have never been disappointed well done again!!

We chose to have lunch at this restaurant because they permitted our dog to be in the bar area. The menu was typical of a pub and nothing out of the ordinary, but the specials caught our attention. Unfortunately, the starters (chicken wings and prawn cocktail) were quite average so we rated them a 4 out of 10. The special main courses were even more disappointing. The cottage pie, priced at over £21, was mostly mash with very little meat. The scampi was dry with a thick coating and not much meat, and the chips lacked flavor, earning this meal a 3 out of 10. We do not plan on returning as the bar appeared disorganized.

We ate here last night, spur of the moment decision. It was easy to book online and when we arrived we were given a friendly welcome.. I've has a beer in the garden before (stunning views) but the inside was just as nice, cosy with lots of individual touches so although it's a fullers pub it has a very local pub feel to it. We had a range of food from the standard and specials menu and it was all delicious but social mention for the baked garlic mushroom which a taste sensation, as you can see from the photo I was half way through eating before I thought to take a pic! Great service, with really friendly staff. Loved it.

Since my last review, I'm delighted to report that the Red Lion continues to provide top notch food and excellent service. On my visit today, I had a pint of beautifully kept HSB £5.00 accompanied by Stuffed Garlic Mushrooms served with tarragon aioli as starters £6.95 . For mains, I chose the Chicken Kiev, served with rosemary thyme roasted new potatoes and creamed leeks £16.95 together with a admittedly large glass of La Vuelta Malbec £9.90! cor! , which was lovely. The service was exemplary, in fact, I'm struggling to remember if I've ever had poor service at this pub. That's quite an accolade, actually. I continue to highly recommeded this pub.

I recently took a friend to The Red Lion for lunch, and we had a wonderful experience. The staff was welcoming and attentive, and the timing of our meal was perfect. The food was delicious, with my friend raving about the 'Pork Belly' dish as the best she had ever tasted. I enjoyed the Lasagne, which was also very good, paired with a couple of glasses of smooth Shiraz. We both cleared our plates and appreciated the thoughtful touch of water served in a chilled bottle. After our meal, we enjoyed a tour of the older parts of the pub with the landlord. It was a brilliant lunch experience that we didn't want to end. Thank you to all the staff at The Red Lion, we will definitely be returning.

Myself, wife and mother-in-law visited for Sunday lunch. Very busy! Took a while (20mins for our orders to be taken, but that was OK as we could see they were busy. Two roast dinners, two very disappointed diners! The veg consisted of one slice of carrot and a tablespoon of cabbage. Oh and a single healping of cauliflower cheese between two. But the potatoes stole the show with their impenetrable exterior. None were able to be eaten! I played it safe with a burger, at least so I thought. The driest burger I 've ever had the misfortune to endure (and I 've eaten a lot! . We did complain, twice in fact. The first response was I 'll pass it onto the chef (no apology from the serving staff or ch...
