"Just had dinner with family and unfortunately nothing to write home about about here, when I asked about beers and wether they were poured flat or with a sparkler the waitress had no clue at all, we were given a list of out of stock...items which was ok one of those things so I ended up ordering the prawn starter which was hugely overpriced for with small prawns but tasted ok. Mains arrived we ordered liver, lasagne and ribs. Ribs were soaked in BBQ sauce and the edges of the meat were a bit dry but in general not bad, lasagne was quite oily but tasted ok, liver however was supposed to be “seared” more like cremated, very tough, overdone and small portion, no check back, disingenuous response from the waitress when we mentioned the liver, toilets were disgusting, rotting wood and rusted radiator, and all this for nearly not the worst meal in the world but certainly left a lot to be desired, not recommended."

Back again for lunch and music. Good standard pub food. Friendly helpful staff. Great range of beers and ciders. Will no doubt go again next time we are down.

A great pub with a warm welcome...it's not a corporate chain. Well kept draught beer and a huge selection of ciders. Home cooked food at a reasonable price. Will certainly visit again when in the area.

I ordered the spicy bean burger, chips, and tomato soup and it was honestly the best meal I’ve had since I’ve been in Swanage. The staff are friendly and the beer garden out back is lovely. Highly recommend.

The barman who served us could not have been more helpful or accommodating. We had a lunch booking. The pub was experiencing a possible flood and preparing for an open Mike afternoon/ evening but they made us so welcome. Highly recommend. View menu

Open Mike session in the garden on a sunny Friday afternoon was great. Packed. Great range of ciders and beers as ever and very friendly and helpful staff. Arrived Saturday for similar but horrendous rain had resulted in flooding and no music. Felt very sorry...for landlord. Will be back.

What more do you need on a Sunday? The Roast Beef was top of the pops and was topside! The Brains beer was a no-brainer. The price was very reasonable given the way prices have surged up. And the last bit is up to...you the company! I was blessed to share the experience with the best of company.

We had Sunday lunch here and most of us had the lamb or beef roasts. We thought the meat (both lamb and beef) was a bit tough. One choice of roast meat cooked through, whereas I like my roast beef with some pink in...the middle and my husband likes his lamb a bit pink too The whole meal was mediocre..no cauliflower cheese so disappointed. But service was quick and the waitresses were friendly. View menu

we visited the Lion after the cinema for a drink and a chat and to see how it had emerged from the pandemic it was a shock to see the state it is in. the toilets are in a terrible state, the general standards of cleanliness...poor and only two beers were available. time was called to an empty pub. meanwhile, othet pubs in the town have emerged refurbished and ready to go. this must be a wake up call for what was the best pub in town

Good service from our waitress and the pub was a traditional country style setting. We came based on previous reviews but were disappointed with the tasteless food in particular the steaks dishes and veggie burger. A bit of seasoning on the food would be the...difference. Compare it to other pubs in the area and it no way near the quality of food you’d expect for the price. Unfortunately we’re disappointed in our final meal in swanage.
