"We were looking forward to going to the Reindeer at Hoveringham. The reviews looked great and it’s local to where we live. We were met by the front of house when we walked in. I don’t know if he was having a bad day but his manner was slightly abrupt/rude. He pointed us to a table in the corner of one of the rooms and left us to it! Fortunately the service massively improved from there on with a waitress that was very pleasant. We both had the mussels for staters, which was excellent and possibly the best sauce I’ve had. Then for the main I had the slow roasted belly pork which was nice though id have preferred it crisp on the sides, though that’s my personal choice and I should have asked for that, and my wife had the Venison pie which again was tasty. As with some restaurants you never know how large the mains are, so I ordered some Green Vegetables as well. My recommendation is don’t bother, the mains are large enough portions as they are. The side of greens was £5 for a saucer sized portion of watery kale and cabbage. Great starter, reasonable main and ok value for money."

Really tasty food and great service in a lovely little pub restaurant. Can't faulty anything and it is worthy of its recent Michelin recognition.

Excellent meal, Mon-Fri 50% off mains, 20% of bottle of house wine and discount on sweets. Unbelievable value and service, difficult to find fault! Will definitely be a regular lunch venue.

Fabulous meal. We were there on a Friday evening they have a great Friday evening “chippy tea” special. Very accommodating of my allergies and excellent service. We have been a few times and have always been impressed. View menu

Been wanting to visit this place for ages, finally made it and it didn’t disappoint. Great quality pub food, nice drinks and friendly service from the whole team. The venue itself is tastefully decorated and comfortable. I really enjoyed my venison pie (with plenty of gravy) and my partner loved his fish and chips. We will definitely return.

A menu with no surprises and all the better for it on a nasty February day. High quality comfort food. Food for inner you, not Instagram. Dishes in which a decent portion of the main ingredient is unmistakably the hero not just a bit player on an artfully arranged plate. Still pretty standard in rural France it’s an ethos in short supply in these parts. Only the fish course was a bit disappointing. The excellent sauce deserved cod loin rather than a thin fillet. Venison pie a definitive example. Only serious gripe.. when there are unoccupied tables for four throughout the service why squeeze three large blokes around the smallest in the room?

A new desination for regular country walks, ,eeting up with friends and sharing good food in a friendly environment. The Reindeer offered a great environment that was welcome on a February day to the four of us. Staff were genuinely friendly and helpful restaurant area spacious and comfortable. Menu was detailed and interesting and staff obliged when I wanted no mash and more spring veg. When food arrived it looked scrummy and tasted even better, plates were hot which seems to be a rarity these days. Veggie people in our party commented food was very tasty and og high quality. We would thoroughly recomend The Raindeer and will be returning soon View menu

A last minute decision to book a table for lunch on a Monday (when many other local restaurants are closed) turned out really well. An interesting but relatively short menu offered more than enough options from which to choose at sensible prices too. We shared a starter and had the venison pie and belly pork as main courses. Both were beautifully cooked, well sauced and the accompanying vegetables were more than sufficient for us. A gin tonic and a couple of pints of Timothy Taylor made a change from having a glass of wine each. The pub was nicely ‘buzzy’ with most tables occupied and lovely views on a sunny day over the local cricket field. What’s not to like. We will return to this well ru...

"I’ve just realised I’ve been visiting The Beck for over 20 years now for both drinks and meals with friends and family and I’ve never written a review! The Beck for me is home from home and I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve visited. They say a business is only as good as it’s staff, and maybe this is why The Beck has lasted so long with a reputation for a relaxed atmosphere good food and good service. The staff here are friendly, caring and professional, I’ve never been anywhere where I felt so at home as The Beck. Edward, Julie, Theresa, Kieran and not forgetting Trish in the kitchen make the place what it is! In 20 years I’ve never had a bad meal here, the food is excellent, and today did not disappoint. I was treating my parents and wife to a belated Mother’s Day and Dad’s birthday meal out, I had the lamb roast which was sublime and my dad had the blade of beef which in his words was “melt in your mouth” good! My Wife had a chilli and my Mum had the flat bread, which were also very nice and portions are plentiful. My daughter has Dairy and Soya allergies and wanted sausages and mash however the mash had butter in it so they made it with chips instead, she also cleared her plate! If you want to go somewhere with a nice warm friendly atmosphere and excellent food at very reasonable prices then The Beck is definitely worth a visit."
