"I’ve heard that one of the owners is vegan, and you can definitely tell by the thoughtful vegan options they offer. For instance, the burger is piled high with delicious ingredients. I decided to try the daily special, which was chili with rice. I initially thought chili sounded a bit boring, but when it arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. It was fresh, healthy, and had a nice kick to the sweetness, so it wasn’t overly bland. I also looked forward to dessert and the sticky toffee pudding was excellent. Overall, I left feeling very satisfied with my hearty vegan lunch!"

I was surprised to find so many vegan options at a small pub . The vegan pudding was great too and the service was very friendly

Just so nice to see so many vegan options given equal priority on a menu. Yes they do meat but it has to be 50/50. Or it feels like that! Had the Sunday roast. Massive! And delicious. Very friendly staff. Going to go back for sure.

Standard menu includes vegan options and items that can be made vegan. Had a tasty veg Oak Pot with a hint of spice/curry with rice and seasonal vegetables (ask for without butter) and a really tasty sticky toffee pudding with vegan ice cream (as standard not separate item). Would eat here again.

Very generous Sunday roast with all the trimmings including a vegan Yorkshire! Lovely pub, gorgeous setting, beautiful town and friendly attentive staff. We’ve been many times and food service has never faltered. Much of the menu is vegan, including starters and desserts. Updated from previous review on 2021-06-28 View menu

We were looking for somewhere with good vegan options for a family meal as two of us are vegan. Three of the five starters were vegan (plus one vegetarian). Five mains were vegan. We enjoyed our choices and the service was excellent. They have accommodation and we noted that they offer a vegan cooked breakfast as well.

We visited for the first time last week since we’re new to the area, and we were really impressed by the variety of vegan options available. It felt like we were spoiled for choice! I ordered the vegan ribs, which were absolutely delicious, while my partner had the plant-based dish that was surprisingly hearty and flavorful, despite being made with lentils and grains. We also sampled a vegan, organic, local beer, which was fantastic. Overall, we were very impressed with both the menu and the service. We will definitely be coming back!

"Our third visit for a birthday dinner wasn’t as good as previous visits. The sweet potato soup was plain; the bread was actually toast which smacks of old bread being used. My main course of Sole was smothered with capers, which spoiled the flavour. The salad was amazing; I also ordered Savoy cabbage which may be unusual with the fish but I’d had it on two previous visits and it was delicious; but the savoy cabbage that I paid £3.50 for was absolutely dreadful, so dry, probably microwaved to death; it would not be a gross overstatement to suggest that wood shavings off the floor would have been better. The other disappointment was how tired the place is looking. When I went to the gents, the cistern cover was off showing a clear huge damp problem with mould, and the door cubicle wouldn’t close because it was swollen. I imagine they have been told to keep the cistern cover off to let the walls dry out; which they should do when the pub is closed, not during opening hours. It looked awful and the visible mould was worrying. Whilst in the cubicle the light suddenly went off within seconds of being in there which was disconcerting. For the price and the level where the Cat and Custard Pot is placed it should be immaculate with excellent food. I’m disappointed for them and for us, because this has been a goto dining place for birthdays at least once a year, but we won’t be repeating the experience. It’s worth saying that we have always experienced good service and this occasion was no exception, the waitress was excellent."

"On the surface, this restaurant looks like it should deliver. The service was slow, despite there being 3 members of staff, front of house, and 7 covers. The 3 members of staff spent the majority of their time by the entrance, away from the main restaurant. I finally had my order taken and asked for a beer and a jug of tap water. The beer arrived, but no water! The food was placed in front of me, without a word. No offer of any dressing or if I needed anything else. Throughout my meal, I didn't see a member of staff until my starter was finished. It was collected, without a word. No engagement at all! My main came a pizza). It was placed in front of my, again, without a word, and the staff member went back to join the others who were out of sight. Again, my finished main was collected, without a word...Nothing! 10 minutes later, I had a desert menu placed on my table, I think the members of staff may be mutes! My desert menu was collected and she spoke!!! I declined the offer of desert as I really wasn't impressed with the service. Writing this, I can hear the girls chatting out of sight) so they can hold a conversation. I know this country is struggling for hospitality staff, but in what could be a very good restaurant, I expected more. The starter was good. The pizza was average just lacked flavour). I wish I'd stuck with my original plan and gone to the Tapas bar, along the road..."
