"Went here for the first time last week , for afternoon drinks with a friend. There was an overwhelming stench of dog that hit you as soon as you walked in and I wouldn't have wanted to eat there ,no matter how good the food is supposed to be. I have a dog ,so go to lots of dog friendly pubs and have never smelled anything like the Spotted Cow.Waited rather a long time to get served initially but service did improve over the time we were there. Husband had a pint of Madri which looked awful and he said it tasted as bad as it looked . Good choice of real ales and wines fortunately or we would have left . We won't be going back ."

It's a shame that the cafe connected to the pub is now closed. I had stopped here during many bike rides in the past.

Menu was not as advertised on the website ,we waited a long time for our food and overall it was very disappointing. The Sunday roast was only just warm ,Yorkshire pudding hard and overcooked .We had hoped for more with a new chef . View menu

Very friendly owners. Nice range of real ales kept to an excellent quality. One of the few pubs who still give CAMRA discount. Listens to customer requests for top quality beers and actively tries to get them if he can. They also provide food and musical entertainment. They deserve to succeed.

Again!!!!! What a fantastic place to eat. We came with the family this time. I had the lamb, boys had the penne pasta, and beef roast, mum had a vegan Gnocchi which looked and smelt incredible. The guys are doing a fantastic job. Beer tasted fantastic and the atmosphere was buzzing on a very busy easter Sunday. Well done guys and see you soon! The Archers.

Absolutely fantastic pub. Can't recommend enough. Staff professional but super friendly and all customers we met were lovely. Very dog friendly, and the food was delicious. We were in the area for 5 days and visited 3 times. We would never be out of here if we were local. Sunday roasts, scallops, pies, fish and chips all perfect. Specials board selections well worth trying. Defo head here if you can View menu

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. We had made a reservation for a table for two at 6pm, but the service was chaotic. There was only one bartender for eight customers, no wait staff, and a chef who seemed overworked. We ultimately left without receiving any kind of service. We had enjoyed this pub on a previous visit and will likely give it another chance, but this visit was very disappointing.

I stopped by for a Sunday roast sandwich, which has always been excellent, but today's was exceptional! The food arrived promptly within 15 minutes, beautifully presented and piping hot. The roast potatoes were delicious, and the brioche bun was filled with juicy pink lamb. They even added a homemade Yorkshire pudding inside the bun, which was a unique and tasty touch. The Yorkshire pudding was airy, fluffy, and flavorful. It all came with a side of tasty gravy, which was perfect. To top it off, I got to sit by the cozy log fire. Overall, it was a delightful Sunday at the Spotty!

"we enjoyed another very pleasant dinner at the Dog’ in pentrich recently. it is a very civilized but relaxed escaping area, and the type of place where people are miles for, for the culinary experience traveling and with good ground. eating is good. the dining room is spacious, contemporary and beautifully furnished with a relaxed ambiente. also the adjacent bar area is very cozy and cozy. we were warmly welcomed and immediately shown on our table. the service was attentive and pleasant, without being overlaid or intrusive. our meals were very pleasant and we enjoyed the selection of things we had (start, head and dessert). However, it seemed to be some unconsistencies with a portion size. with the appetizers the leek and the potato portion was very small a piece laek about two centimeters long filled with cheese and in a sea of sauce to convey the grasp of “more”. the crispy szechuan cauliflower and aubergine, on the other hand, contained large parts of the two components of the teller. similar to the net, the green thai chicken contained three very large portions of huh in different shapes: a large chicken breast as the main component of the Thai chicken shell, accompanied by a huge serving of shredded chicken in rice, and a huge Bao beer filled with a large piece of baked chicken. while the various components were delicious, it was just chicken overload, almost like three main dishes as one, and much too much. the same applies to the puddings we have chosen. the dog inn trifle was a huge bowl with lemon-rossel sponge, with white chocolate-creuzard, and celestial gel and sorbet. the yorkshire rhubarb cheesecake, on the other hand, was a very small roll of cheesecake with a puppy game of rhubarb sorbet and a few pieces of poached rhubarb. our meals were certainly delicious, and we enjoyed them. the hanger steak was cooked nicely after a discussion about it; it was clearly stated on the menu that the hanger steak was ‘Served ‘Pink or well Done’, but we were informed that it could not be ordered well. which condition is then on the menu? the dog is worth looking. it is in the beautiful and historical village pentrich, on the b1016 between the towns ripley and alfreton in derbyshire. we're coming back."
