"Organised a surprise Birthday Retirement Party for my Mum 29.7.23 . From start to finish the whole day was amazing the staff were brilliant and were so helpful with us throughout the course of the afternoon . Everyone who was invited (40 people said how lovely the day was and the food was amazing . Mum was so surprised and happy to see all her family and friends here . My daughter had organised everything with Nicky from the food buffet , the numbers , time we were arriving to the time we left . They also sectioned off part of the pub for us . Steph who was seeing to us on the day was brilliant as well , nothing was too much trouble for her . I would definitely recommend the Stanley . Thank you so much Nicky , Steph and all the staff , you made our afternoon If I could rate you all more than 5*s I would !"

Walking into this pub was brilliant as it felt so homely and traditional The menu is very varied and good quality food at a good price

One of the waitresses is extremely rude with no manners at all. She was shouting at customers in the beer garden and being very sarcastic.

Came for lunch with a friend and was very pleased with the food and the service. Possibly one of the best steak and kidney pies I have had. Also a very good prawn cocktail View menu

We popped in for a quick pub tea with the children, staff were friendly and gave my girls some colouring sheets and crayons, food was lovely especially the homemade chunky chips.

A big thanks to Taylor and the entire staff for hosting a wonderful late lunch celebration for my mum's 80th birthday. The food was amazing, the service was excellent, and the cocktails were also fantastic.

Absolutely brilliant Good Friday lunch. Sandwiches and baguettes are all homemade and delicious. And the chips are to die for. 100/10. Proper old school pub and proper old school service. Cannot rate this place more highly. View menu

There is a very simple reason why this place is always full which is that the food and service are very good indeed. Nice diverse menu includes light bites if you aren’t too hungry and generous full main portions that won’t disappoint

The pub food is quite simple, I ordered the half chargrilled chicken which was a bit small and lacking in meat, and was also very dry. However, the chips were excellent. My companion had the beef lasagne which was very greasy. The service, beer, and gardens were all excellent.

"ok… I have deliberated whether to write this as don’t like to be negative but I think this place can take it so here goes… My husband booked a meal as a Christmas pressie this as I have always wanted to go to a michelin star restaurant and this is quite local to us. We arrived at The Barn which is quite basic in appearance as the downstairs looks like several saunas due to the amount of wood on show. Upstairs was nice and attractive. The staff are efficient but the whole set up is bit ‘cold’ and unfriendly. The staff were not particularly engaged; maybe this is how they were trained to be? The food consisted of amuse bouche which tbh didn’t really taste of much and this was a theme for the whole menu unfortunately. The homemade bread was delicious but the other offerings were tasteless and needed seasoning. -trout mousse in a lemon broth, including pips, was tasteless and the mussel mousse on pikelet didn’t taste of mussels. anyhow on to the main event-we ordered partridge -chewy and tasteless, the cured sea bream not seasoned sufficiently. The meals looked delicious-style over taste? Then the mains-my deer was tender and delicious but the sauces didn’t taste of much-I had to check the menu to see what they were meant to be. My husband ordered the steak-now at £62 this should have been SOME steak- what a shame it wasn’t -it was just a sirloin, bit chewy, not that great. Deffo not worth £62 of taste! It wasn’t caramelised on the outside and abit sinewy. The bone marrow bearnaise sauce was tasty though. Now I like cooking, I like food , I cook fresh meals every night but I’m not a chef. My first experience of food at this level… I will stick to local restaurants WITHOUT michelin stars at a fraction of the price -tbh I prefer my own home cooked meals! Is this a case of the emperors new clothes? Do people just think it’s good because they are told by someone else it’s fantastic? I’m disappointed in the experience at The Barn. Bit of a wash out and I will be asking for a meal at Bistro Verite in Birkdale next Christmas probs at a fraction of the price!"
