"We visited for lunch on New Year 's Day to celebrate a family birthday. We were welcomed warmly and the atmosphere was very convivial. From that point on things slid downhill. The portions looked mean and the food was not cooked well. For starters, my brother and I ordered the monkfish scampi which consisted of four diddy pieces of chewy monkfish (not all the membrane had been removed) in a hard batter. They tasted as if they 'd been sitting an hour under warming lamps. The others ordered baked camembert the like of which I 've never seen before. For £10, they were served half a small cheese standing upright which was sizzling on top and cold inside. It appeared to have been grilled under a salamander rather than baked in the oven. I ordered my main course from the specials, a 'chargrilled ribeye of pork '. I wasn 't sure what I got. It looked like a 1 inch thick slice of rolled pork. It was dry and lacked any chargrilled flavour. The roast potatoes were at least a day old and were leathery and difficult to cut and eat. Christmas leftovers? I hope not. I wish the circumstances had allowed me to take photos. Not once did our waiters ask if we were enjoying our food. Neither did they enquire when they cleared. My family isn 't used to complaining about food or service and as I was a guest, I felt obliged to hold my tongue. Had I been paying for my meal, I would have had no hesitation in commenting on the starter or sending my pork back. This place is expensive and has a pretty good reputation locally hence our disappointment. The website talks of the high quality, locally sourced ingredients; I 've no reason to doubt the provenance and quality but have to ask, 'What happened in the kitchen? ' I work in the business and know well how tight margins can be. I hate to write reviews like this knowing that they can effect someone 's livlihood but the kitchen and the hotel 's patrons deserve better than what we were served. Maybe the restaurant was just having a bad day. If so, it can 't afford too many more."

A fab meal, sea bream with frigola so fresh, hot and well cooked. A very welcoming pub with classy decor and warm on a cold night!

Warning! This is not a pub... it's a restaurant! Nowhere to sit before your meal, and looked down on if you sit casually at a table, avoid at all costs

We stayed the night in a lovely room and had lunch dinner and breakfast. The room was nice with a comfy bed. Meals were lovely, especially the breakfast this morning. What really made our trip was the amazing staff! Laurie the floor manager was amazing, she was very attentive with a great sense of humour and she and her staff couldn’t do enough for us. Excellent overnight stay! Richard and Symon.

We really enjoyed our stay here 3 nights in one of their large rooms. Room was indeed large and very comfortable, nicely decorated with claw foot bath in the room and separate shower and WC. The rooms are above the pub, which is really fantastic the food is exceptional and a good mix of interesting dishes and gastropub staples. Drink selection also excellent. Have been to quite a few similar places and I would say the thing that really made the Swan stand out was the quality of the staff all really friendly and efficient. Couldn’t fault this place for a short break in the Somerset countryside. Glastonbury and Wells and both close by. Oh, and the Swan is also dog friendly, View menu

Rip off Britain is alive and well! After months of illness decided to have a treat with a meal in the pub. We were charged £10.80 for a medium glass of Pino Grigio, we checked and was told that was the price, really?? Also beware of the pricing policy, they don't include VAT, so the price on the menu isn't what you pay. Only reason I can think of doing this is to pull the wool over the eyes of customers to the end price and make it look less expensive than it really is. Imagine going into a coffee shop and seeing price of coffee, then finding out you have to pay more!!. It is in the small print, another typical sign they want to rip off customers. No wonder the place was nearly empty by 8pm....

As a local resident I have eaten at Swan over some years, usually once a week sometimes for a business lunch or dinner. The lunch menu and dinner menu are similar, prices are consistent with restaurant prices and the food is consistent with bar meals. The choice which was excellent offering options for a light low calorie lunch is now limited to options with large quantities of chips and bread. I voiced my observations to the manager and instead of taking this on board as genuine feed back I was made to feel that I was just complaining and lowering the moral of the staff! She said that other clients were more than happy with the service, menu and prices. These were previously good which is w...

"Been wanting to try this ‘alternative’ pub for a while. Large car park with plenty of space, no steps or slopes into the bar. Access for buggies, wheelchairs etc should be okay, my mother walks with the aid of a frame and has no issues. Inside the decor is certainly alternative but in a great way, loved it! Plenty to look at, keep you entertained and talk about as you wait for your food or just pass the time. Staff were friendly and welcoming, there was just one guy running the bar, taking food orders and bringing food out; I thought he needed a helper or coworker really. There is a decent bar area with seating or there is more ‘restaurant’ style seating further back beyond the bar. We chose to sit in the bar area seating which is a mixture of booth and chairs. Dogs are allowed in which is great, there is free Wi-Fi which is good as my mobile signal was very poor. The menu is standard pub food, quite a bit of choice and plenty of options for gluten free. I chose to have the fillet steak cooked medium, I had a starter of garlic bread but chose for it all to come out together. Mother had beef brisket loaded fries, the portion was massive so I had to help her finish it. The steak was perfectly cooked, I chose to have the peppercorn sauce; this was a bit watery and bland. The steak comes with chunky chips, peas, mushrooms, tomatoes and onion rings. For dessert I had the nutty apple crumble with ice cream, it was okay. Overall this is a great venue with acceptable food, friendly staff and awesome decor that will keep you talking and looking all night. Based on this experience I would visit again."
