"Booked a table for 12:15. Arrived and the place looked shut, both doors shut and front door locked. The chairs were still on the tables from the night before. Greeted (if you can call it that) by a rather unwelcoming member of staff, who looked like she’d rather be anywhere else and then proceeded to complete doing her make up in the back of the bar rather than giving us menus. The tables were filthy, the floors had not been swept from the night before and the couches covered in dog hair. It had a smell in the air of wet dog and chip fat and the bar area was dark, and uninviting. The whole time we were there they didn’t put any music on in the background which meant we could hear the cross words had between the staff (awkward to say the least). The waitress did warm up as time went on and was a little more friendly to the few diners that arrived after us. Considering we booked a table for the restaurant area that’s where we should have been seated. Food was average and not worth the price, as there was no music we could hear the microwave for the lasagne. I don’t normally write reviews however I feel the need as hopefully the establishment will reflect and improve for others, especially when the website etc make it look so appealing. People parting with their hard earned money during these times deserve better."

"The building and its interior is stunning and exceptionally clean! Very warm and friendly welcome by the staff! So.....the food itself....wow....just wow....it is the most delicious and tastiest roast dinner we have ever had (and we've been to a lot of good places with nice roast dinners) the dessert menu was also mouth watering to read but we were unfortunately too full up to have one! If you want a beautiful friendly country pub with delicious home cooked food then you will not be disappointed! With regards to reopening, I can confirm that they have everything in place to keep everyone including the bar staff safe, there are protective screens up on the bar, a one way system in place, no hanging around at the bar and everything is kept very clean and sanitised.Well done to everyone at The Crown, keep up the good work and thank you!!"

"We were seated promptly and our order taken and drinks served, the food took just over 45 minutes and no offer of an explanation for the delay. The menus were too many and in lots of forms, just simplify a little, no wonder you needed a clip board to hold them all. When the meals did arrive the roast dinner was not good the beef was dry and really tough, as old boots comes to mind, the roast potatoes were very hard and very difficult to cut, looked as if they had been in the roasting tin for at least 2 days and reheated. There was a teaspoonful of cabbage and 1 tiny floret of broccoli. this offering was on the specials menu and the only reason it was special is that it must have been yesterdays leftovers. With the other meal was a small jug of gravy, which when poured was very lumpy. We do like horse radish sauce but unfortunately there should have been some on the table and there wasn't. We asked for some and we were half way through the meal before it arrived. The real value of an enduring business lies in the ability to provide good service. On this occasion you missed it by a mile. There seemed to be a significant difference between the fast food outdoor service and the indoor table service and people around us seemed to think the same. The cost of the roast beef dinner was very expensive compared to other local offerings and together with the poor quality an altogether poor experience."

"We stayed here a couple of years ago when we wanted to go to Alton Towers for a couple of days. We didn’t hesitate to stay here again! The 2 bedroomed apartment was lovely, clean and well presented. It was our daughter’s birthday when we visited, it was a nice surprise for her to receive a birthday card and a bottle to help celebrate the occasion. It looks like we will be doing the same for her birthday in 2025!! Everyone was so nice and welcoming"

"We ate dinner here as a couple on a Saturday night in October. The car park was fairly full but there is a lot of space in the restaurant bar area, so we had no problem finding a table, but do book ahead. Warm and welcoming log fire with a specials board above it to supplement the regular menu. We ate a burger from the normal menu and a lamb casserole from the specials board, both were excellent. After our meals were delivered (within 20 minutes of ordering) two members of staff came to check on us. So no complaints on service but as we are both watching our weight I cannot comment on the desserts! Two draft local beers were on tap one from Marstons and one from Falstaff in Derby."
