"Tired and stressed after a hard day, we decided to treat ourselves to a meal out. What a poor decision that turned out to be. I ordered bangers and mash. My partner ordered steak and ale pie. My son ordered fish and chips. The meals were almost £10 each, so I had high hopes. After a lengthy wait I enquired. The fish and chips looked good and was gobbled up. However, my sausages were burnt and my partner 's steak and ale pie resembled something akin to a puff pastry steak burger! Whilst the ingredients were good, there was no gravy in the pie at all. The mashed potato was raw and barely edible. When I went to the bar to complain and asked for a refund. The landlady fetched the chef, who was rude, dismissive and beligerent. He told us, 'this is bullsh*t ' and stormed off. The landlady slammed £20 into my partner 's hand. We left never to return while the pub is under its current management."

Smokehouse! Does this refer to the chef smoking outside because it definitely doesn’t resemble the way the food is cooked!

I was pleased with the food, it was very nice. My only feedback is that for £13.00 for dinner, I only received one slice of meat, which I don't feel was worth the money.

Orders were wrong food wasn’t great quite expensive for the poor food, won’t be returning, the roast I had there a month ago was lovely but the smokehouse so far wasn’t great

The experience was just average. The owner was friendly. They had recently taken over the restaurant that week, so I would like to give it another try before forming a final opinion.

We keep going back to our local hoping one day it will deliver just a good meal and service... but another change of management and another dreadful experience. Although tables where free we had to wait 45 minutes to be seated for food. Then waited another hour to get our food which was over cooked, not hot and very poorly presented. We have decided to never give it another chance after 4 years of trying. Very sad.

My husband and I went for lunch here today and had a wonderful meal, we arrived to a spacious car park and a beautifully set out children's area and would of sat out side had it not been for the weather. We ordered our drinks and food and was taken to our table by a very friendly member of staff, we only waited 15/20 minutes for our food and the portions were hugh, my husband always has ribs and said they were one of the best place he's had them. They had an amazing menu of desserts but we just didn't have the room. The only downside was the restaurant was a bit dated and was quite dark but we will definitely be going back again

"We usually love coming to Cafe Rouge in Henley, always a treat for us and we are always looking forward to it. However the most recent visit was awful and it’s been going downhill over our last coupes of visits. We booked a table for my father in laws birthday. Upon being seated, we were informed that 3 of the main course dishes were unavailable.. pretty much half of the ‘mains’ options. We don’t come to Cafe Rouge for Burgers or salad! We opted for 3 portions of Mussels as had them here before and they’re very good! Mother in law just had pate as there was nothing else she wanted. These were possibly the worst mussels we’ve ever had. You could tell they weren’t fresh (cooked from frozen for sure) and there was barely any sauce in the pot! Usually they are flavourful and abundant in sauce! No check back was performed by the manager on duty..it was a quiet Monday so wasn’t exactly run off his feet. So we couldn’t alert him. Even upon clearing we weren’t ask how our meal was! Just asked if we had finished. We decided to mention they were awful to which the manager told us he would inform the kitchen. When he came back to finish clearing, my partner asked if they were frozen or fresh mussels, to which the manager replied yes, they are frozen. Wasn’t expecting that but you could totally tell! They tasted like cardboard! We had a coffee and a pudding and to be fair to the manager he didn’t charge us for one portion of mussels and the coffees we ordered. The Bill was certainly not worth what we had. Didn’t leave a tip, which we never normally do, but the service was non existent. Manager was more interested in what was on his phone. Won’t be rushing back"
