"Staying locally at Holmsley Campsite and decided to try The Three Tuns for Sunday Lunch. Booked online which was easy and guaranteed us a table. Lovely quaint thatched cottage/pub. Nice decor, very clean, with lovely atmosphere! Staff, excellent, happy, attentive! Sunday lunch we both opted for roast pork, comes with an apple/mustard gravy, pork stuffing, cracking, roast and mashed potatoes. Roasts were a little hard around the edges (maybe kept warm too long post cooking). Was disappointed when a very small dish of accompanying veg arrived I asked is this for one? Was told no it’s for two! Cauli cheese, braised red cabbage, carrots and mange tout. Lovely! Then got vegetable envy when table next to us had their veg arrive and realised we had be denied an adult portion! Did have a laugh with the lovely waitress who did apologise and offer us more veg but we had already cleared our plates! Can fully recommend both puddings we enjoyed the ice cream is BEAUTIFUL, locally produced in the New Forest! I enjoyed a lovely syrup sponge with home made custard. Was delicious! Would we return yes please!"

Excellent pub and restaurant on the edge of the New Forest. Friendly and efficient staff, good choice of ales and first class food.

Great food and the Otter Amber was perfect. The restaurant area is well laid out and has a rural olde worlde vibe. The atmosphere was good. Attentive staff with nice sense of humour. Recommended!

Poor Christmas meal, very disappointed again after giving this place a second chance. Food was bland , frozen roast potatoes and processed turkey meat , total cost for three starters and three mains and a couple of drinks £110 won’t be returning.

Fabulous! A very warm welcome for the 2 of us and the dog from all the staff. Super food delicious smoked duck and scallops as starters and suet pudding and great sea bass as mains. All beautifully presented and only complaint was we were too full for pudding. The dog was even given a pot of treats! If we visit the area again we will definitely return!

We went for a Christmas meal with friends, last year it was really good, this year we were disappointed. We ordered Christmas dinners, found the roast potatoes rock hard, roast parsnips like lolly sticks and some of the veg very undercooked. The mince pie was all thick pastry and little mince. It felt as if a decent meal had been spoilt by a very amateur cook.

We booked/confirmed our Christmas Eve dinner meal in the restaurant. When we arrived, we were told we would have to eat in the 'snug ' bar area which was heaving with drinkers. A table was cleared of customers so that we could eat there. We decided to leave. We were very disappointed. I don 't think the £20 each voucher (not even enough to cover a main meal with service charge) is good enough compensation.

So good!! As a vegetarian I was so relieved to see a pub menu that didn’t do the typical veggie options (burger, pizza, pasta etc. and I couldn’t choose! I had the stuffed peppers and they were so filling and tasty. Pear pavlova for dessert with plant based cream as well and it was AMAZING! Staff were nice and friendly and had a very warm and cosy atmosphere Can’t wait to come back and try the other options!!!

We stopped by this pub for a drink before Christmas and decided to sit in the bar area, which we were glad we did. The regulars were friendly, and there were many dogs around, creating a lively atmosphere. The food coming out of the kitchen looked excellent, so we plan to return and try it next time. We just wish the pub was closer to our home in Southbourne. Despite the distance, it was worth the drive out to visit.

I took my partner for his birthday , have always driven past and car park always full so thought we would try. On arrival we were kindly greeted and the waiting staff were very attentive and friendly . We both opted for the Pan fried seabass ,dauphinose potatoes, mushrooms, baby onions in a tarragon sauce with vegetables. It was amazing and the flavours were superb. There was plenty to eat including the fish fillets . We certainly will be returning and can't wait to try something else. We were looking at all the other meals coming out and they to looked amazing . Well done .I wish I'd have taken a photo as it was presented beautifully .

"My Wife and I don't travel so well these days but decided to go a little further afield from our usual Highcliffe and Christchurch haunts we live in Mudeford. We went twice in point of fact. The first visit was the 21st June when My wife and I had a quiet Birthday celebration lunch prior to the Family celebration later in the day. It was excellent. We only had the Mains and despite it being busy and not having booked we were served promptly and cheerfully with a round of drinks. My Wife had Chicken Pie and I had Liver and Bacon. Both were excellent and my Wifes vegetables were freshly done. I don't have vegetables. We liked it so much we went back three days later to celebrate our youngest Daughters birthday and again had lunch before the Family celebration later in the day. The meal was as fabulous as three days prior. My Wife had a Chicken Roast, our Daughter had Beef Roast and I had an amazingly well filled Steak and Merlot Pie of the Week. As before the vegetables were freshly done. Unusually for us we also had puddings (Lemon Meringue, Bailey's Cheescake and Apple Tart with Custard. All were excellent. All washed down with Tea and a Latte the former being served in nicely twee Teapots. Total cost £80 for the three of us on the second visit. Worth every penny. All in all First Class and couldn't fault it. Disabled parking nicely located in the front with ample parking for those more mobile at the side and back. Just a note for History buffs. The main building was built in 1853 by John Harrison(? a Carpenter thus the name Carpenters Arms."
