"We booked for a Narnia-themed afternoon tea. The cafe was prettily decorated and quite a lot of effort had been made. We were given hot chocolate to start and then the cake stands arrived. The sandwiches were fine but the scones and cakes were a bit dry, so much so that a couple of us left a few bits. I tried each of my 4 cakes and left all but a bite of two of them and most of a scone. We felt that the owner had tried to make an effort with the decor and the service was good, but the actual food was below average. We were rather shocked when we received the bill: £114 for tea for four people! If everything had been excellent I’d have thought it was quite expensive but as it was all mediocre I wasn’t impressed. Considering you can get an afternoon tea locally which includes a glass of Prosecco for £25 (at Le Bouchon at Heybridge), I think £28.50 per person is very overpriced."

Narnia themed afternoon tea for my Auntie's birthday was a beautiful treat. Delicious food, friendly attentive staff and a fantastic theme. Unforgettable, definitely worth a visit.

The stunning theme of Narnia created a beautiful ambience for our delicious afternoon tea. Every little touch added to the overall amazing time we had. Support small local independent businesses!

What a charming discovery! We walked from the promenade with our grandchildren, a 10-15 minute stroll away. The food was delightful, made fresh, and the milkshakes were excellent. We even took some homemade cake to enjoy later. The Alice in Wonderland/Mad Hatter's unbirthday theme kept us all entertained as we looked around and discovered every little detail.

We were on holiday from Manchester and were staying in East Mersea and decided to go into Maldon and came across this amazing tea room. It is amazing. I had a cream tea, my mum had a Tuna Jacket and my dad had a Cheese and Onion Omelette. The staff are lovely. Love that its themed as well. I recommend this place to everyone. I can't wait to visited again. Keep up the good work. Matthew xx View menu

I went here recently as the theme was Narnia ! What can I say! Its exceptional! The decor, the ambiance, the atmosphere! You can really see how much the owner cares about the place. The cakes are delicious, so moist and filling ! The cake portions are huge ! Well worth the money ! There are so many vegetarian and gluten free options , I Will definitely be back ! 100% recommend to anyone in the Maldon area ! It's a hidden gem !

I would 100% recommend this place to anyone ! I had the narnia afternoon tea ! It was 100% worth the money , the cakes were filling and the scones were delicious, but the cakes ? Wow !! They were absolutely exceptional! The owner is welcoming and friendly, nothing is ever a bother ! One of us is dairy free and they were so accommodating and made us feel so welcome . It is wheelchair and buggy friendly ,plus dog friendly too! So all the furry friends can join !

This restaurant is a quaint and cozy themed place with adorable china crockery. They offer free refills on tea, and the sandwiches are larger than expected. However, the cakes were not very impressive. In an afternoon tea, the cakes should be the highlight, but they were lacking in the wow factor. The sandwich sizes were too big and there was no choice in fillings. The Victoria sponge was disappointingly thin. The shortbread biscuit was good, but the scones were more like rock cakes and there was no choice between plain or fruit. View menu

I made a reservation for afternoon tea at The Vintage Rose for my mom's birthday, and I couldn't be more impressed. They went above and beyond for us, even writing a birthday card which was a lovely touch. The sandwiches were delicious, and after requesting the menu in advance, I was able to make some changes to suit our tastes. Hayley was extremely accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. The cakes were also amazing and a generous portion size. It was definitely worth the money. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to host parties, events, or birthdays. They also offer gluten-free and vegetarian options. Overall, I give it a 10/10 rating.

I love an occasional Cream tea and my step daughter found the Rose Tea Room and took me here as a surprise. What an utter delight this place is! I was a little confused by the pictures (or lack of them) on Trip Advisor but reading other comments it seems as if the theme of the tea rooms changes periodically. I don't know for certain about that, but when we went it was a great Alice in Wonderland theme. It looked great, the staff are friendly and, most important of all, the cream tea was delicious and a very reasonable price (to be honest I'd have been happy to pay a bit more for it). We had a laugh trying on the White Rabbit hats. Tucked away off the main road, more people need to know about...

"We come to Maldon fairly regularly and occasionally stay over. The New Pavilion is was one of our favourite go to restaurants. We arrived at 7:30, as booked, and were very happy to see the front restaurant full except for our table for two. We ordered drinks at the bar and sat at our table. Maybe we should have been more aware of the situation when, after about 15 minutes, we had to tell the staff we were now ready to order. The young waitress was very apologetic and we said it was no problem, not her fault as she was doing two jobs waitressing and covering the bar as the barman had literally disappeared and was occasionally seen serving an old meal. Now we were waiting. 40 minutes? During this time we noticed a number of people shaking their heads at the staff. People walking out after questioning the service and the delay. The poor waitress, we could literally hear her in the back room crying. When our starters came we cancelled our main courses. My wife said my baked Camembert looked like a crème brûlée. I did eat it though and pay for it. I was not going to put the waitress through any more stress. I spoke to the barman as we were leaving and he seemed very surprised that I mentioned the overload of work the waitress was doing covering both jobs. He never said what he was doing during his absence. I did say that as he was obviously not the owner it was probably not his fault as well. All the tables in our corner agreed with what I told the bar manager and we’re about to leave without food. I will be very interested to see the owners reply and any excuse he comes up with. There’s no excuse. Get more staff. Hopefully the waitress has walked across the road to a top restaurant that treat their staff better. She was brilliant and deserved better treatment."
