"Went for food with friends and used to come here loads. We visited on a Friday night and the pub was lovely and welcoming but when we ordered the food we was told they had run out of chips, fries and sweet potato so we ordered burgers anyway but then was told that they had run out of them too. Most of the menu was sold out so we finished drinks and went elsewhere The real eye opener was there was a staff member behind the bar holding a baby while serving people which seemd to be the norm cos no one said anything I don't think we will come it's not what it once was which is a shame cos it has great potential to be amazing but stocking food is surely something that needed for a busy Friday night Terrible"

Stopped here with our campervan overnight (via britstops) with our 3 dogs, we had a great meal, very reasonably priced, dogs made to feel very welcome.

It was very quiet during lunch on a Thursday, but all three of us enjoyed a fantastic meal. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed. We definitely plan on returning!

This restaurant is a charming and serene spot to reconnect with friends and reminisce about old times. I still remember the lovely atmosphere and delicious lunch I enjoyed here back in April 2012.

Harry Sarah are very welcoming. We had a late Sunday lunch for 8, we did pre order. Orders were taken as we had pre dinner drinks. the waiting on staff were very attentive, even bringing out more gravy before we asked!. Even better followed by live music!! Fabulous night! Thanks Sarah Harry .

Fortunately a few miles from the A1 so lovely and quiet. Very welcoming hosts. Great food and lovely beers. Recommend the fully loaded beef burger and the pizzas. Nice to sit out the front of the pub and look at the crooked steeple of the church opposite. Pricing is very competitive. Would definitely visit again if in the area.

What a lovely pub....... The fire was burning, dogs and friendly villagers. The food was delicious, my friends had a huge burger n thick as a brick chips. I'm vegan so I thought I was just gonna throw chips n salad together but they had vegan sausage, mash and perfectly cooked broccoli. Very delighted reminded me of a middle of nowhere pub. Would definitely go back and recommend.

We stayed here through Brit Stops in our motorhome and were not disappointed. We got a warm welcome when we arrived and nothing was too much trouble. We visited on a Sunday and booked in for Sunday roast, both of us having the beef which was tender and full of flavour. The roast potatoes and vegetables were all cooked well and tasty. Brilliant place to stop as it’s only about a mile from the A1, we shall certainly use again if w3 are travelling this way.

At 11 pm, children were running wild while their parents were clearly intoxicated and not supervising them. A little girl even bumped into me, causing her to spill my wine. I was shocked that this establishment allowed children to be running around, especially at that late hour when people were drinking. The safety of the children should have been a priority. My wife had to check on the little girl for a few minutes because her parents were outside arguing. It was completely unacceptable that the pub allowed this situation to occur.

We visited this lovely village pub on a Saturday afternoon. We were offered the food menu as we were hungry and there was a great choice to choose from including vegan choices. We went for the fish baguette with skinny fries and salad. After ordering we played darts which was great, there is also a snooker table but unfortunately our food was ready. I can’t recommend the food highly enough, it was all freshly cooked and the presentation was great. I imagine it’s very cosy on a winters evening with the fire and the candles light. We shall definitely return.

"The Stag Inn is a delightful looking pub overlooking the small green in the village of Barkston near Grantham. Internally the pub is clean and tidy with a range of two and four seater tables with New England shades of light blue on the painted table legs in the restaurant area. We didn’t venture into the pub side so can’t vouch for the decor in there. We arrived unannounced just after opening time of 12 and were offered a table with no difficulty. There was a menu of the usual offerings of fish and chips and a range of burgers together with roast salmon, chargrilled pork chop, a leek and cauliflower cheese pot pie, ham egg and chips and a vegetable lasagne amongst others. A specials chalkboard hung on the far wall and the crab and prawn salad with Mediterranean bread sounded so good we both opted for it. That was a mistake as we were to find out. The meals were reasonably quick to arrive and were served up in two large bowls with a dusting of paprika round the edges. What hit me immediately was the large flaccid green lettuce leaf draped over the edge of the bowl, together with a whole half-a-lemon that we each had. A small wedge would be perfect. The bread tasted sweet and was as far from the Mediterranean as it could possibly be apart from the occasional input of sundried tomato. What irked me most though was that the bread was delivered up pre-buttered with what looked like some bright yellow catering spread. A small ramakin of real butter between the two of us would work so much better. When asked if everything was okay I mentioned this and was told that chef would be informed. Having said all that the crab and prawn salad was full of flavour and sat on a nice mixed salad of red peppers, lettuce, red onion and cornichons. A word of advice to the wise….. don’t sit at the table near the restaurant counter as this is where the pub’s phone is located. On at least two occasions the phone was left to ring unanswered by the staff, presumably as they were busy elsewhere (the pub was by no means full) and was right behind my head! The volume of the ringer was high and it would have been a more pleasant experience for us if, firstly, it was answered and, secondly, the volume was turned down. On the plus side the staff were polite and helpful but the food not so great."
