"Our visit last night Thursday, June was not our first, and it won't be our last. Wadhurst has needed a fine restaurant like this and now seems to have got it at last. The menu immediately strikes you as on par...with the best in London, even if there are only half-a-dozen dishes listed. Last night, my wife chose the fish-of-the day, which was sole with crispy capers, samphire, jersey royals and lemon butter. I chose organic local chicken supreme with garlic, mozzarella, tomato and crushed potatoes. Mine was perfect, my wife's less so. The chef had been a little too generous with the lemon butter, or was it olive oil? There was one other fish on the list, and a vegetarian meal. The wines are very expensive, but there are some excellent beers available, our favourite being Harvey's best bitter. As for the general pricing policy, which has a lot of locals complaining, we think that for two courses or for three is reasonable. And perhaps this is a deliberate ruse to discourage families with noisy children in order to provide a place of rest for others. The waitresses could not be more friendly and polished, at the same time un-intrusive. We like the piped music, which is in the form of soothing songs with the level kept low. The new seats, too, are really cushioned armchairs. I would have liked the complimentary hot bread with butter to be granary, and I would have liked to see a side salad on the menu for a healthier meal. But altogether, every good wish is due to the owners Sussex Pass and the chef Adam Sear. We'll certainly go back, but we'll also keep watching them, for signs of their losing their nerve. Wadhurst, with some shops on the High Streets, badly needs them."

Disappointed with meal, spoke to waitress who said manager would speak to us who had been available until we were unhappy with food. Sold as stuffed chicken (skin and bone no chicken) Manager ignored us for duration of our time in restaurant, very expensive, poor...quality, empty restaurant, need I say more (local who will not return)

eating here is urgently recommended. the service was excellent and the staff was very well known. meat is all local in the house and tortured. we are gluten-free and that was absolutely no problem. we were even served a free taste before the starter made to home gluten-free thymian brot. delicious. we were a few days ahead of location and that was by far the best we enjoyed. the restaurant is completely new and we were thrilled to have discovered it. Just thought I’d let you know that your food is outstanding along with your hospitality … every element in every single course was treated with the upmost respect … and to source the vast majority of your food within the locality of Wadhurst is something...to be admired … whatever you’re doing you’re doing it right … we had a fantastic lunch and will definitely return … please pass on our compliments to the chef and his team … fine dining at its very best and well worth the lovely countryside drive over

Friends of ours who live around the corner booked the of us in for Sunday lunch ! Apparently they tried to book other local pubs before this one and they were fully booked ! From the off the staff were fantastic , we...were shown to a table in the garden area that was really nice , we all had roast dinner , some pork and some beef , all were really nice and I’m a fussy git , we skipped desert though because there was nothing we fancied on there ! All in all I was really impressed with the pub, staff and food ! Thankyou guys

I booked a table for five for my husband’s birthday eight weeks in advance forward planning definitely, to be sure of getting a table in view of the Sussex Pass’s inclusion in the Muddy Stilettos Awards shortlist. With three days to go,...I got a phone call today to tell me that they had decided to change the menu for Saturday night to tapas and burgers because of a beer festival and did I still want the table? No I did not and I will never again be wanting one there. Absolutely disgusting way to treat customers. Anyone wanting a table for a special occasion: be warned. Your confirmed booking is meaningless. View menu

we ate on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. all agreed that the meals were dull. the sunday roast was the best we had. the sweet was the highlight as they were perfectly cooked. rich gravure, crispy bratkartoffeln and wet pork with crunching. the sticky... pudding was also excellent. on Saturday evening we have tried to combine some of the recommended weeps with our different meal times. the workers were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. our only criticism was the main light above the table was far too bright. Maybe a dimmer switch would create a cosier ambiente. everything else was perfect. we spent the weekend away and the white hard really made our stay special. we hope to come bac...

friends have recently bought an property in wadhurst and suggested we go to dinner here. the restaurant in the pub is called the Sussex Pass. the first impressions of the pub were good. it is very beautifully decorated and has a warm, comfortable feeling. the bar...the weapon was friendly and efficient. the restaurant area was also very attractive. it's small just over covers and I would recommend that they book as we did when it was busy. the same personal covered the bar and the restaurant, but managed to keep on a busy Friday night above everything. not before we were not sure what was to be expected, but when checking the menu it was clear that this was not a simple pub restaurant. this...

"The last time I visited this restaurant was 6 years ago, it WAS a real hidden gem. When I walked in this evening nothing had changed and I was hoping the food would be just as good as I remembered. Service was slow which surprised us as it was a Sunday night and pretty empty. We were given some olives while we ordered (the nicest part of the meal unfortunately). My boyfriend ordered the garlic focaccia with caramelised onion; the bits that had cheese and onion on were very tasty but this was only about 30% of the focaccia, the rest of the bread was over cooked and bland. I ordered bruschetta which was completely underwhelming. 4 small pre sliced bits of stale bread, some chopped up soft tomato and pesto with rocket in the centre. I could have made this at home. For mains I ordered what I always used to have, linguine alla marinara. The portion of pasta was decent, however I only counted 6 pieces of seafood and one large prawn on the top. The menu states it also comes with tomato’s which there were none of. The flavour tasted like buttery pasta with a hint of garlic, again completely underwhelming. My boyfriend ordered spaghetti meatballs. A large portion but completely inedible as it was absolutely disgusting. The sauce tasted like pure tomato purée, so lumpy and stodgy and the meatballs were like nothing we had ever tasted, VILE. We decided to bring the rest of the portion home for my mum (a head chef) to try. We wanted to know what she thought the flavour was as we were confused as to how you can make a meatball taste so vulgar! She spat it out immediately saying it tasted like it had either been cooked in or made with rancid/old fat. The cherry on the top for us was when we asked for the bill. We were given the generic boiled sweets that come with it. 2 of the boiled sweets were in wrappers however there was a third that stuck them all together that was half chewed, out of it’s wrapper. The place was COVERED in cobwebs, decor completely outdated with many flashing lights, menu pages stuck together and stank, looked like they had many a drink spilt over them and not once changed. Don’t even get me started on the toilets! We cleaned our own cutlery it was so filthy and swapped side plates with an empty table next to us as ours had food still on them. Left feeling completely disappointed and are both now suffering with major trumps. Will not be returning again!"

"We had a voucher for a sparkling tea. Reassured by their website that pronounced their covid measurs were above government guidelines I allayed my 93 year olds Mums fear about going. We were able to sit outside which was of much covid reassurance to Mum...And all was well in this wonderful place which Mum pronounced to be 'the real macoy '...they even catered very impressively for my vegan diet...all was well until we paid in the reception lounge. Mum had thought we would not need to hand over our gift card as they had already got our details when we booked on the phone, but not so...she wore her mask, I was lulled into a false sense of security and destracted that Mums very poor hearing meant she had not heard and was about to walk out the door in her unstable on her feet way, as I handed the voucher over minus my mask to the unmasked young man. Mum observed no one in the lounge was wearing a mask, and the young man got very close to me. I do think this is indefensible. Today the government has changed their rules so today they would all have to be wearing their masks, but surely it 's good sense. On reflection I noted our two waitresses were walking pretty close to ' each other too. Most of the clientele seemed to be over 60...surely they have a duty of care. When i check trip advisor for much humbler eating places, alot have staff wearing masks before the government told them they must...WHY NOT HERE!? I did phone them today..I was told staff do get a temperature screen every day ...but that is only an indication. I was impressed they had hands free alcohol gel dispensers, they took our details, wiped our tables and others every hour and after someone has dined. Its a wonderful place which has let itself down."
