"this was another culinary institution of venedig that we had not visited. not intentionally, (we are creatures of habit), and tend to revise the places we like, instead of risking disappointment. like another of our new destinations, eating was very good, but so. restaurant, during our visit was disturbingly empty for a lunch service. as with the other place, there can be many reasons for it, not least the spread of “Gulp and bubbles” farms, the substandard pizza and overcooked pasta. the Venetian culinary traditions have no attraction for the diner who wants to have pizza in a city where the pizza is just as out of place as hamburger. the other restaurant could at least point to its exit position, at the end of a short culdesac. this cannot be said for vecio fritolin on one of the most important tourist routes from rialto, to the railway station and piazzale roma. is that eating good enough to reserve a table? in a word yes. my starter of three traditional cicchetti was delicious as well as the equally traditional octopus salad of my wife. my wife was also very free in terms of her pasta course of spaghetti, with mushes, muddles and tomatoes. it would have preferred to keep the shellfish in their shells (probably better for the Skamische but not for fresh seafood lovers), but she said it was still very good. I had an intercourse of a fish soup that had a delicious, rich, suppenbase and was scored with sugar cubes with mixed fish. again, nothing to scare the squeamish. taste was good, but it could have done with some more fish for €20 to be honest. for my main course I had filets of sea bass with mixed vegetables, which was better at €24. we enjoyed an excellent bottle brolettino cà dei frati with the meal and I had a grappa with our coffee. since we were the only restaurants during our lunch, the service was obviously very attentive (but certainly not overlaid). the waiter was a huge “menge” with a deep, booming voice and was very helpful to guide us to the bathroom and so. However, there was a slight worsening because I paid the bill. the last amount (unknown for me now, as I seem to have transferred the bill) was in the area where I had enough to pay in cash. I actually had enough to cover the bill and leave the change (under 10 €, but over 5 €). When I offered the notes, the waiter looked at them and said: “The bill does not include a service,” so I failed another note and handed them over as the embarrassment I am coward. the use in most Italians is not a “service fee”. I was actually castrated by a local red to leave a pointed one. he didn't want us to make it for local Italians. I had also returned a “USA level” of happiness, with the statement that Italian employees receive an appropriate salary. I hope that this "service character" does not catch up and if it does, not in the way it dominates the culinary experience in the united states. try to leave a ten percent tipp in the usa and see what they get! all in a good restaurant, but to be honest, in this vacation we have eaten better."

we had made a reservation before we arrived in venice, and had some expectations as we had read about the place in the internet. eating and service was absolutely a great experience!

Very friendly staff, exquisite fine food. The portions for the primi piatti are not large, so definitely worth combining with a starter or secondo piatto. Excellent tiramisu for the dessert!

absolutely terrible service! we have lunch with two children. only stater and pasta ordered! after 50 min we were not even given cichetti that are not necessary to cook! we ask the waiter about waiting time and he was absolutely not polite. for sale that they have only one cook today ( why were we not told about it at the beginning!)? After asking for a bill for drinks, we waited 15 minutes more! disappointed about everything in this restaurant! View menu

we were looking for another restaurant when we went from vecio fritolin, and it fascated us. very small front end, so it looks cozy and intimate out the road (head corridor). Anyway, the staff were welcoming and attentive, went through the menu, and made suggestions that we appreciate. we shared a starter of scallops, and had spropion fish stew, and duck chest mains, finish them with tiramisu filled chocolate ball. everything was excellently prepared and presented. They are small, but we have fed every bite.

Fine dining at its best! The servers speak good English and provided excellent service! When I told them it is my husband's birthday, they found some candles and put on his tiramisu. And yes the home made tiramisu is to die for. Not too sweet...and not too wet. Perfect texture! We had the tasting menu 55euros each. Perfect portion for the tasting menu. Loved the squid ink pasta with mussels! My fave from the tasting menu, besides the tiramisu! 2 glasses of house wine with still water. 134 Euros total. Reasonably priced for the fresh ingredients.

The first time we went here, was about 15 years ago. I had baccala mantecato and my husband had the fish fry. Fried fish here is not at all greasy. Although this place previously was a traditional Venetian fish fry place, it has now gone...quite upscale, and done so quite well. An amose bouche served up front was nice. The baccala mantecato appetizer was coated in squid ink dust and lightly fried, amazing. I wanted the fish fry this time and wasn't dissapointed. You'll never want to have fried fish anywhere else ever again. Thes people know their way around the kitchen. Good wine choices. elegant service. View menu

For my 42nd birthday Edyta had booked a table for 2 for 20:30. Our Airbnb was only 10 metres from the front door so top marks for location! The ambiance was lovely and we were seated at a great tabke straight away. The service was...brilliant and we were offered an apperetif as we looked through the menu we opted for a refreshing spritz! The chef sent out a little taster for us to try which was lagoon fish, pine seeds and onion in olive oil, very nice and unexpected touch. For a starter Edy ordered Cod Trio, cod 3 ways and enjoyed it immensely low temp slice of cod fillet with leaves radish, shredded cod inside a squid ink ball and the 3rd was cod butter (patè) on polenta. I opted for Fritol...

We ate here Christmas Eve, based on a recommendation found on TripAdvisor. Overall, we found it a comfortable place with great service, but we thought there ought to be more food on the plate given the prices charged. The staff was quite welcoming when we...arrived and we were seated quickly, and offered a table at the front. An aside: the place seems small at first as there's only 4 tables at the front by a large window .. but there are more tables further back in the building. We had essentially two waiters they were quite attentive, so the service was great. To get started, they brought out a courtesy appetizer which was pleasant and unexpected. Bread was also brought out in a small baske...

"This is my second review on this place...after The Fork assured me they would resolve the situation following my complaint about the 20% discount that You Sushi would not honour. Food and drink... no problem. Nice enough food. That 's the good bit out of the way. We booked using The Fork and quoted the 20% discount offer on food and drink. I also reiterated this when we arrived and was told that was fine, no problem! On receiving the bill I again pointed out the 20% discount was missing, even though I 'd gone through this on arrival. They played absolutely dumb and refused the discount. I even showed them their website with the discount on it. To no avail, they weren 't interested. I paid, albeit reluctantly, and we left. I took this up with The Fork. All seemed fine and they gave me Yum points since they agreed I was in the right. I pointed out that Yum points are of no use since the closest UK restaurant I could use them is over 200 miles away! They promised to get back to me, resolve the issue with the restaurant etc so I left it with them. Now they 've washed their hands of it! The discount still shows at 20% for each and every day despite them refusing to honour it!! and The Fork have not taken any action against them. This leaves a very bad taste no pun intended and after the cheating restaurant and The Fork 's complete lack of trying to help other than utterly useless Yum points which are as much use to me a 7 dollar note it 's the last time I use either. So..if you do visit this place, be prepared to be conned out of the 20% discount."
