"On a sunny day we had an aperitif at the pavement cafe of Walderdorffs on the square in front of the cathedral (‘Domfreihof’ in German). The view on the cathedral, the adjoining Liebfrauenkirche and the historic buildings facing the square was absolutely fantastic. Later we had dinner inside, in the stylish Walderdorffs restaurant. The menu covered a fair range of options. We went for a simple grilled steak and a ribeye with chips. They both looked good, but the ribeye wasn’t nice. It was really chewy and lacking in taste. We weren’t too pleased either with the fact that the side salad we ordered was served on the plate, next to the meat. Service was friendly. Prices seem to be a bit on the high side for Trier. We definitely wouldn’t go back to Walderdorffs for food, but their pavement cafe was our favourite in Trier."
